The death of a major character on Person of Interest helped to top off another swell Tuesday for CBS, which notched a nice little win in the adult demo and viewers. Nielsen says CBS averaged a 2.5 rating/7 share in 18-49 and more than 14 million viewers with its powerhouse trio of NCIS, NCIS: LA and POI.

As for the latter, ratings were flat versus last week (2.0/6 and 12 million) but then, who knew the producers would surprise us with such an unexpected death? (Check out our interview with the show’s producers and the dearly departed).

ABC and NBC tied for second with a 2.3/6. On the Alphabet, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actually posted a slight increase of 5% over last week. The Goldbergs, in contrast, was down 6% from last week to a 1.6/4 while the David Blaine: Real or Magic special from 9:30-11 p.m. earned a pretty impressive 2.5/7 and 7.5 million viewers. Maybe trick boy should do a comedy? Over at the Peacock, The Biggest Loser was flat versus last week with a 1.8/5, while The Voice earned a 3.1/8, and Chicago Fire hit a season low with a 1.9/5. Once again, the ladies of EW urge the Fire producers to produce a shirtless episode with the dudes!

Fox came in fourth with a 1.4/4. Dads got a 1.3/4, followed by Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.5/4), New Girl (1.7/5), and The Mindy Project (1.2/3). These are pretty decent comedies (yes, I’m even including the patriarch one) but dang, they’re facing some serious competition.

Over on the CW, Supernatural posted its best rating among women 18-34 (1.1/3).
