David Bradley (Game of Thrones, Harry Potter) has been cast in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming drama series, The Strain, FX announced Thursday.
The new series, which will air on FX next summer, is based off the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and novelist Chuck Hogan.
Bradley will replace John Hurt (Only Lovers Left Alive) in the role of Professor Abraham Setrakian, a holocaust survivor who immigrated to the United States after World War II and now runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem. As mysterious viral outbreak reminiscent of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism beings to spread around New York, Setrakian may be the only one in the city with imperative information about the disease.
Production on The Strain begins later this month in Toronto and the series is scheduled to premiere in July 2014 on FX.
The Strain also stars Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Mia Maestro (Frida), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), Kevin Durand (Fruitvale Station), Natalie Brown (Being Human), Jonathan Hyde (MI-5), Richard Sammel (Inglorious Basterds), Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes), Jack Kesy (Morgan), Ben Hyland (Marley & Me), and Miguel Gomez (Bless Me, Ultima).
