NBC’s The Voice crowned its season 5 winner and Entertainment Weekly was on the scene at the show’s official post-finale red carpet. Read on to find out what season 5’s third place winner and runner up had to say about the finale and what’s next for them.

Team Adam contestant, Will Champlin came in third place, but despite finale night, the singer  “wasn’t tripping out at all today.”

Of what he’s learned from the show, Champlin explains, “I’ll definitely take the work ethic with me after leaving today– I think I’ve always had that, honestly but above all, I’m definitely going to be taking lots of loyal Champs fans with me that have stood by me this whole time and gave me what I have.”

Like Champlin, runner-up Jacquie Lee (Team Christina) is optimistic. The 16-year-old says she’s “having fun” and she “loves what she’s doing”– in her eyes, those are two of the most important things.

Lee also says that while she plans to continue pursuing her own musical career, she’s not quite sure what sound her original material will take. “I am thinking about every possibility right now– I’m really into mixing genres and not being confined to one thing.” Adds Lee, “I’m so excited to start experimenting with everything.”

As for what’s next, both Will and Jacquie seem to be eager to start working on their own original music.

Champlin is ready to resume composing, something he put on hold in order to devote all his attention to competing on The Voice. As to what sound he’s going for, Champlin is gunning for something similar to Avicci’s “Don’t Wake Me Up” which he performed during the finale.

“I’m definitely going for a sort of rock-electronic sound with my own music,” says Champlin. “Think Black Keys or Imagine Dragons.”

Jacquie tells us she loves to write songs and that she’s really excited to use the new platform The Voice has given her to continue to pursue her career as a musician. “I’ve grown so much as a person and I’ve learned so much musically, about the bigger picture of things and about this industry. I am so ready to use all the tools that I’ve just gained and put all of that toward writing my own album.”
