Boy is CBS going to miss this show: How I Met Your Mother hit a season-high rating Monday night, helping boost the network’s entire block to also hit season highs.
HIMYM had 10.7 million viewers and a 3.8 rating among adults 18-49, its biggest demo since last February (the day after CBS aired the Super Bowl) and its largest audience since 2011. Last night’s milestone 200th episode was a huge episode for longtime fans, telling the parallel story of The Mother over the past eight years (here’s Sandra Gonzalez’s recap).
The HIMYM performance helped drove 2 Broke Girls to its biggest rating since May, Mike and Molly to match its season high, and Mom to a high in total viewers and best demo rating since its premiere. Even freshman drama Intelligence jumping to its highest Monday rating so far.
Over on Fox, with The Following back in its regular time-period this week for season two, ratings dropped notably — from both the show’s recent Sunday night preview episode and from its same-night debut last year.
The horror thriller delivered 6 million viewers and a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49, down 54 percent from its football-fueled preview on Jan. 19 and down 38 percent from its Monday opener in 2013. Basically this is pretty standard for the show last season, though one would hope for more of a spike for its Monday return. For a lead-in, The Following had a repeat of the preview episode.
