'Revolution' ratings fall: What are the odds of season 3?

revolution-ratings.jpg

Apocalyptic adventure drama Revolution is one of the most ambitious dramas on broadcast and creatively the show has done plenty right, especially when you consider the creative constraints its family friendly early time period (8 p.m.) and format (a serialized drama spread across 22 episodes).

Yet its ratings are in a tough spot. Wednesday night’s hour hit a series low, delivering 5.1 million viewers and a 1.3 among adults 18-49. That the show isn’t owned by NBC (it’s from Warner Bros.) stacks the deck even higher. A couple years ago, all this would have been a no-brainer for cancellation, but determining what gets axed lately has become more tricky — especially at NBC. Just look at last night’s chart and see how many shows are also pulling numbers in the teens.

Fox’s American Idol easily won the night, down 5 percent from last week. NBC also aired SVU and Chicago PD, both of which were up 6 percent. ABC’s Suburgatory was down 17 percent from last week to tie its series low; Super Fun Night was down 24 percent to a low. Nashville, however, was up 7 percent. CBS’ annual Super Bowl ads special was down 5 percent from last year.
