The B—- is back!

Krysten Ritter in final negotiations to star in NBC’s astronaut pilot Mission Control.

The 1960s-set comedy is described as a “workplace ensemble in the tone of Anchorman that examines what happens when a strong woman (Ritter) butts heads with a macho astronaut (not yet cast) in the race to land on the moon.” Ritter’s character is further described as “tough on the inside but pretty on the outside, the head engineer who leads the Apollo team at Mission Control at the NASA Manned Space Center (in 1965). A woman in a man’s world, Mary is super-smart, brisk without being brusque and immensely capable without losing her feminine appeal. When Tom Stone is brought in to add ‘balance’ to Mission Control, Mary sees it as sexist attempt to undercut everything she has done.” Executive producers include Will Ferrell and his production partner Adam McKay, who also directed both Anchorman films. David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) serves as pilot showrunner.

Ritter joins recently cast co-stars Malcolm Barrett and Jonathan Slavin, who play scientists in the show. The actress reprises her Veronica Mars role in the reunion movie coming out March 14, and recently appeared in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes. She was last in a TV comedy in ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23.
