Fox has pulled out all the stops on its update of Carl Sagan’s astronomy classic Cosmos. Not only is the show going to air simultaneously across 10 News Corp.-owned networks — including Fox, National Geographic Channel, FX and Fox Sports — but the show has enlisted President Barack Obama to introduce the first episode.
In the video message, President Obama “invites a new generation to embrace the spirit of discovery and inspires viewers to explore new frontiers and imagine limitless possibilities for the future,” says Fox. Last Friday, Fox and Nat Geo hosted a special preview of the show at the White House as part of the first-ever White House Student Film Festival.
The 13-part Cosmos premieres Sunday, March 9 at 9 p.m. ET. Will Fox’s media empire and the lure of splashily produced science teachings be able to steal viewers’ attention from heavy competition such as AMC’s The Walking Dead? Or will TV viewers not have enough braaaaains to check it out?
