David Benioff’s and Dan Weiss’ Game of Thrones is a U.S. hit, but the two show-runners are most interested in overseas TV these days, like Denmark’s Borgen and the UK’s Black Mirror. See what they had to say about their underrated TV picks:

David Benioff: It’s not well-known in America yet, but I’m incredibly obsessed with Borgen. It’s incredible how much great TV is coming out of Denmark, it’s such a tiny country. It’s almost like the way Ireland has created so many great music acts even though it’s only a few million people. Denmark, which is I think smaller, it seems like they keep coming out with new shows that are quickly bought by Hollywood and get turned into remakes. Borgen is incredible because there’s nothing gimmicky about it; it’s just a political show with incredible writing and acting that’s beautifully done.

Dan Weiss: Another show that’s hard to get [in the U.S.] is Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror in the UK. It’s so smart. It’s a science fiction anthology show. And it’s some of the most consistently impressive idea-based writing with a real bite and edge to it that I’ve seen — ever. I love the show.

Benioff: [Danish comedy series and movie] Klown. It was a show [titled Klovn], they made a movie too. It’s so funny and out there. It’s a show where you can’t really believe they just did that, and they did it on television.

Weiss: If you made that movie in America you’d get arrested.
