The cast and executive producers of Fox’s hit supernatural series Sleepy Hollow hit the stage at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theater for their first PaleyFest appearance on Tuesday night. Check out five of the most interesting things we learned from the panel at PaleyFest below:
Season 2 will bring new faces and a new authority figure
Brace yourselves for season 2, Sleepy Heads — from the sounds of the Sleepy Hollow panel, this upcoming season will showcase a slew of both familiar and unfamiliar faces. Showrunners promised that fans would be introduced to new characters both of the human and supernatural variety. One of them is a new authority figure who will become the man in charge now that Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) is serving time behind bars. “This person is gonna be very’‘not on your side, pal!'” promises executive producer Mark Goffman.
Ichabod and Katrina will have a tough decision to make regarding Henry
Executive producer Alex Kurtzman revealed that redemption will be one of season 2’s bigger themes, and also said we’ll see both Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Katrina (Katia Winter) struggling with this theme in regards to their son Henry (played by John Noble, whom show runners confirmed would be back for a second season) — revealed in season 1’s finale to be the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse. “As evil as he is, it’s still their son — so it’s not gonna be an easy to decide what to do with him,” said executive producer Len Wiseman. “At the end of it, can you kill your own son? That’s gonna cause conflict.”
Season 2 will delve further into the backstories of other characters
The first season of Sleepy Hollow may have served to “play catch-up,” as Goffman puts it — but now that viewers have a firmer grasp of the characters and the world they’re living in, showrunners say they’ll have more opportunities to delve into the backstories of other characters. Goffman specifically teases that Abbie and her sister, Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood), have a particularly interesting history that they’re itching to explore. “Assuming Abbie gets out of purgatory, she’s going to start to wonder what she’s got inside her that makes her the way she is today,” said Goffman. The executive producer also teased that Andy Brooks (John Cho) also has an interesting past they’re hoping to illuminate if Brooks ever comes back from the dead (again).
Have we seen the end of Jenny Mills and Andy Brooks?
Fans have been speculating about Jenny and Andy’s fates since last season’s finale. Last time we saw Jenny, she was seemingly unconscious (and possibly dead) in an upturned car after a bad run-in with the Headless Horseman. And Andy was left for dead after Ichabod and Abbie brought down Washington’s Tomb with Brooks still inside. Suffice it to say, things weren’t looking so great for either one — but will we see either or both characters in season 2? The showrunners danced around pronouncing either one undeniably dead, but Goffman did chime in with this rather cryptic message: “One of the great things about Sleepy Hollow is that you can be dead but it doesn’t mean that you’re gone.”
Will Ichabod ever ditch his colonial attire?
Remember Ichabod’s ill-fated run-in skinny jeans? Well, when asked by a fan if season 2 would find Mr. Crane ditching his 18th century digs for something more modern, the showrunners pretty much told fans not to hold their breath. “From early on the studio was asking, are you going to change his clothes? And I said absolutely not — it’s part of his character. He’s actually quite an arrogant, stubborn guy,” explained Wiseman. “He has a polite arrogance about him — he’s the type of character that’s not going to change.” Goffman also chimed in, saying that Ichabod’s colonial clothes are kind of like a security blanket for him and a “way to feel grounded in a world that is totally foreign to him.”
Sleepy Hollow returns to Fox for a second season in the fall.
