Station uses 'Lost' ad for missing Malaysian plane story

Ever since Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished almost two weeks ago, seemingly without a trace, people in online forums have have made references to ABC’s Lost.

But it might not have been a great idea for a TV news station to go there.

Omaha’s KETV illustrated a story on conspiracy theories on the missing airliner by altering a popular piece of marking art from the hit series (pictured above) and tweeting it. Lost, of course, was about an airliner that secretly crashed on a mysterious island leaving the passengers somehow largely unharmed. Deadspin slammed the move as “facetious and insulting … you are being tacky and dickish about 239 people who are most likely dead.”

The station told EW: “We apologize for the post. We recognize it was inappropriate and had it removed.” — Stephanie Robbins contributed to this report
