Syfy has picked up 12 Monkeys, a new drama based on the 1995 Terry Gilliam film of the same name, to series. The show has been ordered for 12 episodes, including the pilot, which was filmed last year.
“12 Monkeys is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock,” Syfy President David Howe said in a statement. “We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects including the recently announced event series Ascension and the second season renewal of Helix from Ron Moore.”
Starring Aaron Stanford (Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand), Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars), Noah Bean (Nikita, Damages), and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe), 12 Monkeys follows the story of a time traveler (Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future, who arrives in the present day to track down the source of a deadly plague. Helmed by showrunner Natalie Chaidez (In Plain Sight, V, Heroes), the series will be executive produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven (American Hustle, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Trilogy) and Richard Suckle (American Hustle, The International). Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett (Nikita), who penned the show’s pilot episode, will serve as co-executive producers.
12 Monkeys will premiere in January 2015.
