Rush Limbaugh weighed in today on CBS’ decision to hire Stephen Colbert as the new host of The Late Show.
“CBS just declared war on the heartland of America,” the conservative host told his listeners. “Ho longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values. Now it’s wide out in the open. What his hire means is that it’s a re-definion of what is funny and a re-definition of what is comedy. They’re blowing up the 11:30 format under the guise the world is changing. People don’t want the kind of comedy that Carson gave us or even Leno. It’s the media planting the flag here. Media’s last stand. It’s a declaration.”
Actually, a recent study of Jay Leno by the Center for Media Affairs at George Mason University revealed that Democrats were the target of 10,885 yuks — 15% more than the 9,465 jokes that were lobbed against the GOP. The center’s study covered 43,892 jokes about public figures and public affairs that were told by Leno between 1992 and 2014.
