Good night for 'Scandal,' bad one for 'Community'

ABC and CBS tied in the 18-49 demo Thursday, with shows like Big Bang Theory and Scandal rustling up most of the viewers, says Nielsen.

The CBS sitcom, with a 4.6 rating and 15.9 million viewers, was not only the most-watched show for the night but it spread its good will the shows that followed: The Millers earned a 2.6 and 10.2 million and Two and a Half Men grabbed a 2.4 and 9.6 million. Eye viewers dispersed from there, however: The Crazy Ones tied its season low by posting a mere 1.7 (even though Mindy reunited with Mork!), the same rating earned by Elementary.

On ABC, Scandal topped Grey’s Anatomy in both 18-49 (3.0 vs. 2.5) and viewers (9 mil vs 8 mil). That was a special run of Shark Tank at 8, which earned a 1.6  down 20% from its last original on April 4.

Fox ranked third in the demo on Thursday, with Hell’s Kitchen grabbing a 1.4 and American Idol, a 1.7. Critics seem to appreciate the new comedy Surviving Jack but viewers don’t: it only earned a 1.2 rating and 4.3 million viewers.

NBC stumbled to the finish line in fourth place, with Community hitting a series low .8 rating and 2.6 million viewers. That’s down 11% from last week. Parks & Rec did a wee bit better by earning a 1.0 but the best performing show of the night was Parenthood, which featured another stellar performance by Monica Potter. It (she?) earned a 1.1 rating and averaged 3.6 million viewers.

Following a repeat of The Vampire Diaries, Reign earned a .4 rating on the CW.
