'Orphan Black' season 2 premiere clones more viewers

BBC America’s Orphan Black returned to slightly higher ratings for season two.

The thriller starring Golden Globe nominee Tatiana Maslany came back to 785,000 viewers on Saturday night, including 391,000 adults 18-49. That’s about 15 percent more viewers than its first season premiere last year. BBC America points out the premiere is up a more impressive 97 percent from the show’s season one average, but it is considered standard when calculating these things to compare premieres to premieres.

Frankly, given all the catch-up streaming and social media buzz, we were expecting a bit more of a pop. But then again, Orphan Black does air on Saturday, so it will likely defer a ton DVR playback from busy viewers. Black did win the social media prize, ranking as the top basic cable drama in Twitter mentions for the week. See Dalton Ross’ interview with Tatiana Maslany about the premiere shocker.
