It lost some sheen after losing that second night of results but ABC isn’t giving up on one of the last great variety shows on broadcast TV: Dancing with the Stars has been renewed for a 19th season.
The most recent installment — which saw a personnel shakeup in the celebraquarium and changes to band — averaged a 2.5 rating in 18-49 and a respectable 15.4 million viewers. Not too shabby for the veteran franchise, which still manages to generate a lot of interest. (Who doesn’t like fringe?)
DWTS was one of several shows renewed by ABC in the last 24 hours in anticipation of its presentation to advertisers Tuesday in New York.
UPDATE: Also renewed: Shark Tank for season 6, The Bachelor for season 19 and America’s Funniest Home Videos for season 25.
