Too bad a bell can’t save them now.
Five years after Saved by the Bell‘s Dustin Diamond wrote Behind the Bell, his tell-all book that revealed secrets of the Bell set, EW has confirmed that Lifetime is airing The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story. Although the project is completely separate from Diamond’s book, which included accusations of threesomes, drugs, and more, the new television movie will focus in on the same subject matter: The on-set life of the hit series that ran from 1989-1993. According to a press release, the film “delves into the experiences of six unknown young actors placed into the Hollywood spotlight, exposing the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain the squeaky-clean image of their popular characters both on and off-screen.”
With the original series’ casting director, Robin Lippin, on board, all the main roles have been filled. Leading the charge will be Dylan Everett as Mark-Paul Gosselaar, followed by Sam Kindseth as Dustin Diamond, Julian Works as Mario Lopez, Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tiera Skovbye as Elizabeth Berkley, and Taylor Russell McKenzie as Lark Voorhies.
The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story will air Monday, Sept. 1 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
