Will Forte is set to star in Fox’s midseason comedy Last Man on Earth, but he’ll crack wise on another one of the network’s comedies even sooner: The SNL alum will voice a character on a fall episode of The Simpsons.
What role will Forte play? Let’s just say that he’ll be king for a day.
Not enough? Okay, we’ll say a little more. He’ll voice King Toot, the owner of King Toot’s Music Store, which is located next to Moe’s Tavern and has been Lisa’s No. 1 saxophone supplier, but the two businesses have not been living in harmony. “He and Moe have been neighbors for a long time and have gotten on each other’s nerves, and the tension has been building for years and years and years,” executive producer Matt Selman tells EW. “When we meet King Toot, we can clearly tell that these guys have been driving each other crazy for 40 years. And it finally boils over because King Toot has put his garbage in Moe’s dumpster one time too many.”
While a pair of previous episodes have shown a man named Jer who was running King Toot’s, Selman says he was the manager and Forte’s character is the actual owner. “This is the guy who thought of the pun,” he says. “He named the store and so identifies with the pun that he refers to himself as King Toot. Having said that, he’s just a middle-age music store weirdo.”
Nick Offerman, David Hyde Pierce, Matthew Sweet, and Jeff Ross are among the other celebrities contributing guest vocals to season 26, which kicks off in the fall.
TVLine first reported the news of Forte’s casting.
