'Arrested Development' will return

There are always more episodes in the banana stand. Earlier this week, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos told USA Today that he was “positive” that a fifth season of Arrested Development will happen, noting that “it’s just a matter of when.” And last night on The Tonight Show, when Jimmy Fallon asked him to confirm the news, Arrested star Will Arnett revved up the crowd when he said, “And the answer is… Yes!” He later added, “It’s going to happen. We don’t know when, but it is going to happen.” (Arnett also told the Today show a similar thing the day before, saying, “It’s something we all want to do, so we’re excited.”)

Series creator Mitchell Hurwitz, various cast members, and Netflix had all publicly expressed interest in keeping the cult comedy alive, whether through more installments or a movie, after the streaming service revived the 2003-06 show with a 15-episode fourth season last spring. No timetable was mentioned, and as you can see, one still isn’t being given. (A Netflix representative declined to offer any further information at this time.) But this week’s news does bring the most concrete assurance yet that another Bluth family reunion is in the works.

This isn’t Hurwitz’s only project with Netflix. Earlier this year, he signed a multi-year deal with the company to create and produce original series. And Arnett — or least his voice — stars in the Netflix animated comedy BoJack Horseman, which will be available Aug. 22.
