'Curb Your Enthusiasm': Jeff Garlin gives you five reasons not to miss tonight's finale

Curb-David-Garlin

Tonight on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David & co. embark on their final(e) adventure in the Big Apple. What kind of madcap misfortune awaits your favorite social assassin? Jeff Garlin (a.k.a. Larry’s manager Jeff Greene) kindly supplied EW with not one but five reasons (SPOILER ALERT!) to watch the conclusion of the HBO comedy’s eighth season, “Larry vs. Michael J. Fox.” (According to HBO’s website, “Larry has some doubts about Michael J. Fox’s condition.” Gulp.)

1. “This could be the last original episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Ever. I’m not kidding.”

2. “If you’ve ever wanted to see Larry David clash with Michael J. Fox, this is your chance. One of them shakes a lot — and it’s not Michael J. Fox.”

3. “A pillow sham is an instrument of destruction.”

4. “Lounge music is not given its proper respect.”

5. “This is the one episode where my balls don’t have fun.”

Consider your curiosity piqued, people! Given this intel, what are your predictions for the finale? And how would you feel if Larry ultimately decided not to make any more episodes of Curb?

'Enlightened' trailer: Laura Dern tries to change the world in the new HBO dramedy -- EXCLUSIVE

Interested in seeing Laura Dern as “an agent of change” — not to mention, a woman who can create a rather disturbing elevator scene? Empower yourself by watching the first trailer for the new HBO drama Enlightened. Dern plays Amy Jellicoe, a troubled corporate exec who suffers a nervous breakdown, receives treatment at a mental health facility in Hawaii, and then returns to work as a new person. The kind who peddles self-help mantras and asks a table full of suits, “Wouldn’t you be happier working for a place that’s, like, giving back to the world instead of some corporate parasite that’s raping land and people?” Enlightened – which also stars Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd, and exec producer Mike White — debuts Oct. 10. Check out the trailer below:  READ FULL STORY »

'Biggest Loser' exec producer talks addition of Anna Kournikova, surprises for season 12

Your wait for weight-loss is almost over: Season 12 of The Biggest Loser debuts Sept. 20 (NBC, 8 p.m.). Expect a few changes when the show returns, from the taskmasters (goodbye, Jillian Michaels, Bret Hoebel and Cara Castronuova; hello, new trainers Anna Kournikova and Dolvett Quince) to an updated gym, to the theme of the season, which groups contestants by age. EW spoke with exec producer Todd Lubin about the upcoming action, which also includes an elimination twist.

On the “Battle of the Ages” theme
“There will be three teams: people under 30, people in their 30s and 40s, and people 50 and over. We put the question of ‘Does age matter?’ in this weight-loss world to the test. We’ve had a 63-year-old at-home winner. We’re having a lot of fun with that. Young people may be able to lose the weight faster just because of their body chemistry, but they don’t have nearly the discipline nor do they recognize the opportunity to get their life back, like someone in their 40s might. So in some ways, I don’t think it’s an advantage to be younger. We’ve proven that the older folks actually keep the weight off better than our younger alumni, for the most part.” READ FULL STORY »

The voice of Ryan Reynolds may soon be returning to your TV set on a weekly basis: Fox has ordered a presentation and script for the 34-year-old film star’s And Then There Was Gordon, EW has confirmed. (Deadline first reported the news.) The project — which chronicles the adventures of an average kid whose siblings and mother are super smart — would be produced by Reynolds, who starred in the 1998-2001 ABC comedy Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place, and feature his vocal stylings. He will also pen the script with Allan Loeb (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, The Dilemma). Reynolds may not be the only big celebrity attached to this potential series: Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock, his co-star from The Proposal, is currently in talks to produce and voice as well.

Just last week, Reynolds’ and Loeb’s production company, Dark Fire (which is producing Gordon with 20th Century Fox TV), sold another project to Fox — a Guidance, a live-action buddy comedy series starring Reaper‘s Tyler Labine.

Rosie O'Donnell wants to talk to you about her new OWN talk show -- VIDEO

The first promo for Rosie O’Donnell’s new talk show on OWN was just released, and… it features a lot more talking than showing. “How are you? Good to see you!” greets the 49-year-old comedienne/actress/activist/etc. “I haven’t seen you in, like, a decade. Where you been?” (Well, Rosie, technically we saw you on Sunday on Curb Your Enthusiasm, competing with Larry David for the same woman, but clearly you’re referring to the ending of The Rosie O’Donnell Show in 2002.) After assuring us that she’s not Kathy Bates or Roseanne Barr, the high-decibel Queen of Nice explains that as a mother of teenagers, she needed to get back to work, and her return to TV will involve “a lot of entertainment and comedy.” Check it out below, as her youngest daughter Vivienne kinda-sorta plays along. The Rosie Show debuts Oct. 10.  READ FULL STORY »

Are you ready some football on The Biggest Loser? The Oct. 4 episode of NBC’s weight-loss competition series will feature appearances by a handful of NFL players, including New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, and Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson, EW has learned. Some of the athletes will be seen competing against the contestants in a throwing contest, while others help the pound shedders with their “Last Chance Workout” before that week’s weigh-in. “It’s not just some great athlete coming out and saying ‘Hey, look at me!’” says BL exec producer Todd Lubin. “We actually get to their stories — and these NFL guys have unbelievable stories. Drew had a major debilitating injury, came back and won a Super Bowl, so his message was, ‘Whatever the adversity is, you’ve got to fight through it.’” Lubin also quips: “It’s a good chance to get the men to watch Biggest Loser alongside their wives.”

The show has previously featured such NFL stars as Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Kurt Warner, and Rod Woodson. The season 12 premiere, with new trainers Anna Kournikova and Dolvett Quince, airs Sept. 20.

He may be known best these days for playing a meth kingpin on Breaking Bad, but Bryan Cranston is set to moonlight for one night as an action hero on The Simpsons. EW has learned that the three-time Emmy winner will voice Stradivarius Cain, a suave Hollywood superspy whom Homer sees as an illusion after suffering a head injury. Cain has a very important mission: to make Homer into a man that Marge can’t resist.

The episode, titled “The Spy Who Learned Me,” is slated to air in spring 2012. The animated comedy’s 23rd season, which debuts Sept. 25 on Fox, will also feature the guest voices of Jane Lynch, Michael Cera, Andy Garcia, Jeremy Irons, Joan Rivers, and Kiefer Sutherland.

Nick Cannon to recur on NBC's 'Up All Night'

Nick Cannon is strutting his stuff all over the Peacock: The America’s Got Talent host has now signed on as a recurring cast member of the new NBC comedy Up All Night, the network confirmed today. (TV Guide first reported the news.) Cannon will play Calvin, a spirited talk show emcee whose popularity irks co-host Ava (Maya Rudolph).  In addition, Jennifer Hall (Nip/TuckCSI: Miami) will recur as Missy, Ava’s unconfident assistant. Up All Night, which debuts Sept. 14, also stars Christina Applegate and Will Arnett as new parents, with Applegate’s character, Reagan, serving as Ava’s producer.

Two hosts of 'The Talk' might not return for season 2

The Talk is talking about the possibility of a few hosting changes for season 2: The CBS daytime chat show is considering not picking up options for Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete as it evaluates its creative direction, sources say. (Deadline first reported the news.) Meanwhile, the show has already renewed deals for Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, and Sharon Osbourne, who will be on hiatus for part of the fall to spend time with husband Ozzy Osbourne.

In a statement, CBS said: “The Talk just finished a strong first season, quickly establishing a new daytime brand for CBS in just a few months. The producers are currently working on the show’s creative game plan for season 2, which launches Sept. 6.”  The Talk averaged 2.2 million viewers in July, which marked its largest audience since February.

MTV cancels 'Hard Times of RJ Berger'

Hard times, indeed: MTV has canceled The Hard Times of RJ Berger after a two-season run. The edgy comedy, which chronicled the exploits of a dorky-yet-well-hung high school student (Paul Iacono), grabbed more than three million viewers in its second-season premiere in March, but May’s season finale drew less than one million people.

The network has no shortage of scripted comedy in its pipeline: It will debut the horror-ific Death Valley on Aug. 29 and the animated Good Vibes in October (along with the return of Beavis and Butt-head), while the dramedy I Just Want My Pants Back and an adaptation of Brit hit The Inbetweeners are slated for 2012.
