'Torchwood' ratings dip for second episode

The second episode of Starz’ Torchwood: Miracle Day fell off from its premiere.

Torchwood delivered 1.4 million this weekend, down about 30 percent from last week’s debut. Meanwhile, the first episode of Miracle Day has reached a solid 2.7 million across all viewings for the show, including DVR data. Let’s hope the premiere weekend numbers don’t continue to drop — Capt. Jack might be immortal, but TV shows are not.

'Torchwood' looker cast in 'Nikita'

Dillon-Casey

Oversight is getting a new officer: Dillon Casey is joining The CW drama’s second season in a recurring role.

The Canadian actor plays Sean Pierce, an Army Special Ops officer assigned by Oversight to retrieve the mysterious black box containing Division’s secrets from Nikita (Maggie Q), while also keeping an eye on how Amanda (Melinda Clarke) runs Division. As he learns more about Alex’s (Lyndsy Fonseca) history, he’s distrustful of her relationship to Nikita.

Nikita season two debuts Friday, Sept. 23 on The CW, but you can get a look at Casey earlier than that in Starz’ Torchwood: Miracle Day, where he plays a love interest of Capt. Jack Harkness.

'Torchwood: Miracle Day' premieres strong in ratings

Solid start for Starz’ Torchwood: Miracle Day: The new international version of the UK hit opened to 1.5 million viewers on Friday night across two airings. Through the full weekend, Miracle pulled down 2 million viewers, a good number for a Starz series. The numbers match the debut of Camelot, which, yes, was cancelled, but before that it was the network’s highest-rated series premiere to date. For more, here’s Ken Tucker’s favorable review of the show.

'Torchwood: Miracle Day' actress: 'It's not like we're trying to make it American'

Ever since long-time fans of the Torchwood series learned major changes would take place within the series (most notably the show’s move to the United States from its native U.K.), expressions of worry and doubt have dominated the conversation surrounding its return. But newbie cast member Arlene Tur, who plays ER doc Vera Juarez in the “don’t call it a reboot” installment, thinks the first episode, airing tonight, will quell their fears.

“Initially, I was thinking that maybe they wouldn’t like it because they’re coming to the U.S., but I think they should be more proud that it’s a collaboration,” she says. “It’s not like we’re trying to make it American. We’re saying, ‘You have a great thing going and we’d like to join you.’ It’s a compliment more than anything. I’ve spoken to a couple of the British press, and they’re just taken aback by it. [But] I think their opinions have changed on that and so will the fanbase.” READ FULL STORY »

‘TRUE BLOOD’: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED ROUND 2

Last week, we tackled some of your burning questions. This week, it’s round 2. The countdown to the June 26 premiere of True Blood is on! Here’s some stuff to tide you over.

Hi. I am a HUGE fan of True Blood. I know this season is primarily about Sookie/Eric, but this Bill fan wants to know if the former couple will have any decent scenes together as well? Will Bill be pursuing Sookie or is he too busy with his new power position? — CK
I know you’ve seen the first eight minutes, but the next eight will definitely answer your question about whether Bill cares or not. That said, Bill’s storyline is sometimes very twisted, but mostly just full of twists. READ FULL STORY »

'Torchwood' teaser: What does Miracle Day mean? -- VIDEO

Because we can barely contain ourselves about the upcoming Torchwood, here’s another teaser from Starz that serves as a walk-up to Miracle Day, which will premiere on July 8. It features the character of Oswald Danes (Bill Pullman) talking about what “miracle day” means to him.

Here is the official Starz description of Oswald: “Well-educated and a former school teacher, Oswald’s a convicted child killer, both guilty and unrepentant. But when Oswald survives his own execution, he’s given a whole new life. The most infamous man in the world, he becomes the most provocative figure in modern media. He’s a flare, reviled yet mesmerizing, whose very existence embodies how the world changed on Miracle Day.”

And here’s our description of Pullman: Freakin’ awesome. READ FULL STORY »

'Torchwood' scoop: How Starz handles Capt. Jack's love life

Torchwood-Jack

As Starz gets ready to unleash Torchwood: Miracle Day this summer, there’s one element of the sci-fi drama that’s not referenced in the trailer. When word first broke of the U.S. network picking up the cult favorite BBC series and changing its setting to Los Angeles, fans worried the show’s immortal bisexual hero, Captain Jack Harkness, would be portrayed differently. According to the show’s cast and showrunner, the new series doesn’t hold back. “I knew they would be true to the show and not change drastically,” says star John Barrowman. “If it was watered down, I wouldn’t have done it. For those people who are our stanch fans, it’s going to have the heart and soul of Torchwood which we’ve always had, plus the energy and excitement of a show that’s bigger and better.”

As for his character’s love life, Barrowman says Capt. Jack “gets to have full-on boy-sex a couple of times. On those days going to work I’d wake up and Scott my partner would say, ‘What are you filming today?’ And I’d say, ‘Oh it’s going to be a tough day, I get to have sex with a 24 year old.’” READ FULL STORY »

'Torchwood' gets new title, mad brilliant plot

At TCA press tour, Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies just revealed that the upcoming international version of the show is getting a new title, and spilled the show’s plot.

His storyline is genius. Really.

First, the title. Gone is the previously announced Torchwood: The New World. Now it’s Torchwood: Miracle Day.

I know. Sort of like the first time you heard “The Phantom Menace,” isn’t it?

But wait ’til you hear what the season is about… READ FULL STORY »
