'Ringer' premiere gets solid CW rating

The return of Sarah Michelle Geller to series TV delivered a solid, if unexciting, number for The CW.

The good news: Ringer greatly improved upon its 90210 lead-in and performed far better (up 66 percent) than Life Unexpected‘s debut in the slot last year. But Ringer was originally developed for CBS and has generated plenty of headlines for The CW this summer, and it would have been nice to see the drama’s debut break out of network’s standard ratings zone.

Ringer was seen by 2.7 million viewers and earned a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49. That’s the largest total audience — though not the highest rating — that the network has had in that slot since 90210 premiered there a few years ago (both SMG and 90210 draw an older audience than, say, Vampire Diaries, which is why the total viewers number is relatively high compared to the more important number — the rating).  The return of 90210 (1.6 million, 0.8) dipped 11 percent from its premiere last fall. '90210': Jessica Lowndes talks Adrianna's year of redemption

Eight episodes into filming the new season of 90210, which kicks off tonight, Jessica Lowndes says Adrianna is hard at work into getting back into her friends’ good graces after being caught switching Silver’s (Jessica Stroup) bipolar medication. But who could blame the gang for making her work for it?

“She spent her summer trying to be a good person, and she’s truly apologetic for what she did,” says Lowndes. “She knows what she did was wrong, and she’s going out into the world and trying to redeem herself and show what a changed person she is and all that. At first, no one wants to really accept her, I think she finds allies with people who you really wouldn’t appreciate supporting her.”

Namely, Dixon (Tristan Wilds) ends up being a friendly face among the crowd after Adrianna takes a job as a waitress in Liam’s (Matt Lanter) bar and restaurant, which Lowndes couldn’t be happier about. READ FULL STORY »

'90210' scoop: A love interest for Shenae Grimes?

Chris-McKenna

90210 is about to bring on its own Mr. Big: EW has learned exclusively that Chris McKenna has signed on for multiple episodes to play Patrick, a rich, powerful and very charming businessman who falls for Annie (Shenae Grimes).

But she may not want to pursue this relationship: Patrick continues to date other women in other cities. He doesn’t do it to be mean; he’s just too darn busy to be a one-woman man. The producers describes him as a young Mr. Big — a smooth mover who gets what he wants.

McKenna has made numerous TV appearances on dramas like Harry’s Law, Rizzoli & Isles and NCIS: Los Angeles. He also played Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live.

90210 returns to the CW on Sept. 13.

Cobra Starship to rock out on '90210' -- EXCLUSIVE

Cobra-Starship-band

Cobra Starship is headed to the home of good girls gone bad90210.

The band, known for hits like “You Make Me Feel” and “Good Girls Go Bad,” will appear in a special Rock the Vote episode of the show airing in October, EW has learned. In the episode, Naomi will host a lavish voter registration party at her mansion, where Cobra Starship will perform their song “#1Nite” from their album Night Shades (out Aug. 29).

The announcement comes on the heels of casting news EW brought you last week about former TeenNick star Ryan Rottman joining the show for at least an episode as a gay college student who stumps for marriage equality on the apparently politically-charged season of 90210, which premieres Sept. 13 at 8 p.m.

Did you know the first 100 words of this column are the last 100 words I write every week? I say this for two reasons: 1) If you’ve ever noticed the coherency of this column increases as you work your way through it, you now know why. 2) You now also have an incentive to click to the second page of this column. (Yes! I’m paginated now! << I don’t know if that statement is the “Spoiler Room” speaking or yours truly. I’m going to say it’s the “room” since I, in fact, am not paginated.)

At any rate, take note of the little number “2″ because it’s your path 2 more scoop. (See what I did there.) Hey, I warned you just one paragraph ago…

Remember to send scoop requests to spoilerroom@ew.com (note to the two smooshed “r”s) and follow me on Twitter for more things that don’t make a lot of sense and a few things that do (like TV scoop!). @EWSandraG READ FULL STORY »

Ryan-Rottman

An ex-TeenNick star is headed to the most drama-filled zip code on TV.

Former Gigantic star Ryan Rottman (left, yum) will appear in next season of 90210, EW has learned.

Rottman, whose other credits include a guest spot on Greek and Nickelodeon’s Victorious, will play Shane, a smart, handsome gay 20-something who is confident in his identity and is committed to fighting for marriage equality.

Hmmm, sounds like he’d be a perfect new friend for Teddy. Am I right?

The new season of 90210 kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Hello from, L.A.!

The sun is shining, the Television Critics Association press tour is in full swing, there’s a party with Fox network stars tonight, I’m in the pacific time zone — which means this column is only an hour late — and I ate my weight in french fries from a food truck last night on Melrose Ave. I’m feelin’ pretty damn good, Roomies. And I hope you feel the same after reading this week’s scoop!

If not, you should probably e-mail me scoop requests to spoilerroom@EW.com. We’ll try again next week. And yes, this intro is particularly sunny because I’m hoping that will stop people from e-mailing me spam for Zoloft. If this doesn’t do the trick, I don’t know what will.

‘HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’: NOW THAT’S A WEDDING!

True to their word, creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas confirmed that this upcoming season’s first episode takes place at Punchy’s wedding in Cleveland a few days after the finale. But what’s the gang going through exactly? Well, in Lily’s case, she’s finds herself struggling to keep her and Marshall’s big announcement a secret. READ FULL STORY »

TheopilusLondon

This should be music to the ears of Theophilus London fans: The season four premiere of the CW’s 90210 will feature a performance by the Trinidad-born rapper-singer, EW has learned exclusively.

London will perform “I Stand Alone” and “Why Even Try” at Naomi’s College Kick-Off party in her “new mansion,” a show spokeswoman says. (What can we say? Naomi’s got it going on). If you didn’t catch it, the season 3 finale featured the West Beverly students graduating from high school. Anyway, Naomi’s mother-of-all parties airs Sept.13.

London will release his debut LP “Timez Are Weird These Days” on Warner Bros. Records worldwide on July 19. To get a load of his funky single “I Stand Alone,” click here.

We’re coming up to that point of the year, Roomies, where all the season finales are wrapping up and so is my will to take any more emotional abuse from showrunners. Kidding – and also not. Nonetheless, when the last major finales wrap up, it’ll be like opening the last present on Christmas Day. You’re satisfied…yet sad.

But fear not. Summer TV brings its bounty not too long after and we should rejoice in that. So please send your questions to me. AND if you have any burning questions/general comments about any season finales, send those in, too. We’ll track down some answers, yeah?

Where did the time ago? It seems like just yesterday that we were anxiously awaiting the start of Lone Star; now we can barely remember that two-timing cad. That’s because it’s season finale time – that heartbreaking period when we bid adieu to nine months of scripted heaven to make way for three months of unscripted hell on the broadcast networks. (Don’t worry, Big Brother: We still adore thee).
