Lori Loughlin on leaving '90210': 'There's just not much for me to do'

Lori-LoughlinImage Credit: Michael Desmond/The CWParting is such sweet sorrow, Dixon and Annie’s mom! Lori Loughlin admitted to EW that she’s ready to leave 90210 at the end of the season. Loughlin’s character Debbie has been hot for teacher this year (played by Ryan Eggold) since her husband Harry (Rob Estes) left the show last season.

“Ryan and I will finish the season and then we’re done. There’s just not much for me to do,” said Loughlin, who’s been on the CW drama since it premiered in 2008. “It is a very big cast and it is hard to service all of us. The focus of the show is the kids. The parents were essentially there to service the story lines of the kids, and occasionally we got a few separate story lines, but  it just wasn’t really working in a way that all of us had enough to do. The CW has a demographic that they appeal to, and they do it very well.”

Leaving the famous zip code also means she’s available for new gigs. “I think we will wrap with enough time that it could work for me to join another show. I am not sure how they are going to handle the whole exit,” Loughlin said. “I would guess they may wrap some things up but then again they have already asked me if I would come back for a some episodes next year if they need me.  I don’t think they will be shipping us back to Kansas or anything. [The kids] are going off to college so I am sure changes will be made in that respect. They will probably just move them out of the house.”

Loughlin’s final episode will air in May. — With reporting from Carrie Bell

'House' and 'Lie to Me' propel fox to most-watched Monday of season; big audience for 'Harry's Law'

houseImage Credit: Harper Smith/FoxGoody for House M.D. and Lie to Me: The Fox dramas not only posted gains in adults 18-49 versus last week but helped the network to post its most-watched Monday of the TV season with entertainment programming (9 million), according to preliminary results. The medical drama earned a 3.7 rating/10 share among 18-49 – up 6% versus last week – and was also the highest rated show of the night in all the key demos. It averaged 10.4 million. Lie to Me posted a 3.7/10 in adults – up 39% versus last week – and averaged 7.6 million. Needless to say, Fox won the night in the key demo (3.1/8). Each 18-49 ratings point represents 1.3 million. Fall winners and losers: 'NCIS' reigns supreme; 'Dancing with the Stars' is most-watched reality show

2010-Fall-TV-StandingsImage Credit: Eric McCandless/ABC; Justin Lubin/Fox; Richard Cartwright/CBS; Eric McCandless/ABCWe’ve already seen the death of six new shows (Lone Star, My Generation, The Whole Truth, Undercovers, Outlaw and Running Wilde, though Fox hasn’t officially canceled the latter) as well as the departure of some old ones (So long, Medium! Looks like you’re out the door, too, Life Unexpected!) So it probably shouldn’t come as any surprise that HUT levels among CBS, NBC, Fox and ABC (that’s “homes using television”) are down 3 percent this year (from 39.7 million to 38.5 million).

Does that mean there weren’t enough good shows to watch on the Big Four this fall? Glee, Modern Family and The Good Wife fans would probably disagree, but it’s never good when so many freshman series tank before the holidays. Here’s how all the shows ranked in total viewers from Sept. 20 to Nov. 28:

1. NCIS (CBS) 21.3 million
2. Dancing with the Stars (ABC) 21.2 million
3. NFL Sunday (NBC) 20.2 million
4. Dancing with the Stars results (ABC) 18.5 million
5. NCIS: LA (CBS) 17.4 million
6. The Mentalist (CBS) 17.3 million
7. Criminal Minds (CBS) 16.2 million
8. CSI (CBS) 15.9 million
9. Two and A Half Men (CBS) 15.5 million
10. NFL Sunday pre-kickoff (NBC) 15.2 million
11. The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 15 million
12. Modern Family (ABC) 14.7 million
13. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) 14.6 million
14. Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) 14 million
15. 60 Minutes (CBS) 13.9 million
16. The Good Wife (CBS) 13.7 million
17. Survivor: Nicaragua (CBS) 13.3 million
18. Blue Bloods (CBS) 13.25 million
19. Desperate Housewives (ABC) 13.22 million

ask-ausielloImage Credit: Ray Mickshaw/Fox; Craig Sjodin/ABC; Adam Taylor/ABC; Adam Taylor/Fox; Randy Holmes/ABCQuestion: Maybe I missed it, but when is your last day at EW? And where are you going? —Cynthia
Ausiello: Let me see if I can peel back the thick layer of denial long enough to type this next sentence: My last day at EW is this Friday. As far as where I’m going, click here to have your memory refreshed. Or just join — or, rather, like — my new Facebook page. More specific details about my next steps will be posted there shortly. There’s also Twitter. Okay, time to climb back into my denial suit and get crackin’ on my final AA at EW. Sources confirm to me exclusively that I’m going out with a bang!

Question: Any information on when Olivia Wilde is returning to House? —Christine
Ausiello: Probably not until spring. You’ll be happy to know that her temporary replacement, Amber Tamblyn, makes a positive first impression in her Nov. 8 debut. As you would expect, her character — supersmart and moralistic med student Martha M. Masters — gets quite a hazing from House‘s boys club. We’ll soon discover that a member of said club shares a past with House‘s “immutable obstacle,” as Dr. Crankenstein calls her. Other colorful nicknames assigned to the newbie on her first day of work include:

* The Internet with breasts
* Small Wonder
* The love child of Einstein and Mary Poppins
* The Bunny
* Pippy Long Division

Question: House scoop? —Jennifer
Ausiello: House pink-slips a member of his team during November sweeps. Not once, not twice, but three times. Also, three major characters do some jail time. READ FULL STORY

True! Back to the Future‘s Doc Brown has been cast as a musical hero of Walter’s who’s been in a nursing home and becomes the subject of a Fringe investigation. “Christopher plays Roscoe Joyce, a keyboardist for Walter’s favorite 1970’s band Violet Sedan Chair,” explains exec producer J.H. Wyman. Fellow EP Jeff Pinkner adds, “The lives of these two men, who have never met before, overlap in strange and unexpected ways.”

A Bones spin-off is in the works
While it’s true that series creator Hart Hanson is developing an offshoot that would revolve around the central character in Walter Sherman’s Locator novels, the new guy — a recluse who can basically find anything — will not be introduced in a December episode of Bones, sources confirm. My guess is we’ll meet him in January or February. READ FULL STORY

Question: Rumor around the Glee circuit is that Quinn and Rachel lock lips in episode 6. Any truth to that? —Joan
Ausiello: Sorry, no. If it’s any consolation, it looks like the frenemies get fairly close to first base in the new GQ. Speaking of Glee, I can now confirm that the show is planning a Christmas episode. I don’t have any other details at the moment. I do, however, have a suggestion for Ryan Murphy: Please give us (read: me) an It’s a Wonderful Life homage with Sue at the center. I, er, we don’t ask for much.

Question: Glee scoop, please! —Jeffrey
Ausiello: Someone’s about to get expelled!

Question: One Tree Hill. You’re a stingy Smurf when it comes to scoop on this gem of a show. —La-roo
Ausiello: Sources close to the National Weather Center confirm that Mother Nature is doing me a solid and sending a major hurricane Hill‘s way before season’s end. READ FULL STORY

Ausiello:
Fall season tactics? You tickle me, Vernice. Let’s grab a drink sometime. Here’s your Private spoiler: Something tragic will happen to a major character during November sweeps. It’s probably the darkest story PP has ever tackled—and this show has tackled some dark stories. Consider yourself warned.

Question: Seriously, no Fringe scoop last week? Why do I even bother to read this column? —Brett
Ausiello:
That’s between you, your therapist, and the lovely people at CVS. If it’s any consolation, I have Fringe scoop this week. Actually, I’ve got a few Fringe scoops. The first one comes courtesy of John Noble, who reveals exactly how Walternate plans to pull Peter’s strings from the alt-universe. “[Walternate] has to ensure that [Peter] continues to work on our side,” says Noble, “and he’ll do that through alt-Olivia.” Okay, I’ll bite: How exactly will Bolivia manipulate Peter? Noble hesitates before whispering, “She seduces him… Did I just say that? Did I just drop a big teaser?” I believe you did, sir!

Question: Does the fact that Fringe is setting every other episode “over there” mean that we’re going to see more of Charlie this season? —Melissa
Ausiello:
That’s precisely what that means. Charlie remains active in the alt-world’s Fringe division, so look for him to appear in multiple episodes—beginning with next Thursday’s season premiere.

Question: Can I get some good Grey’s Anatomy news regarding Der and Mer? —Betsy
Ausiello:
Among the manifestations of Derek’s post-bloodbath adrenaline junkie phase will be an increased sexual appetite. “[There’s] a lot of sex,” says series creator Shonda Rhimes. “He’s on the high that a person gets when they face death and survive it.” READ FULL STORY

'90210' Spoiler Alert: And the hunk coming out is...

… Teddy (a.k.a. the shirtless Adonis on the far right). Question: I think you’re awesome. You know what would make you even more awesome? Some Glee scoop. ASAP, or I’ll die. It will be on your conscience. — Pablo
Ausiello:
Curiously, I think I’m awesome too. But I’m also cripplingly insecure—hey, don’t laugh; I am!—so I appreciate the positive reinforcement. Now for that awesomeness-increasing scoop: The show’s season 2 stud-muffin, Chord Overstreet, tells us that McKinley High may be about to go the way of All About Eve. “I join the glee club and also the football team,” he reveals. “I start off as Finn’s friend, [but] by the end, I slowly become more of his competition [and] give him a run for his money. He doesn’t like that I do both of the things he does, and I do them pretty well, if I do say so myself.” What about Rachel? Will he be a rival for her attention as well? “There are lots of single characters on the show, so who knows?” he nonanswers. My guess? He’ll turn out to be the love interest for Kurt that we’ve all heard about. Who agrees with me? Hit the comments!

Question: Is Jan ever going to come back to The Office? —Jordan
Ausiello:
Yes! Melora Hardin will reprise her role as Michael’s former boss/lover in this season’s fourth episode, written and directed by showrunner/costar Paul Lieberstein. “Michael comes in with what he thinks is a pimple, but is revealed to be a cold sore,” explains Lieberstein. “He learns that a cold sore is a form of herpes, and so he gets the idea that he has to contact all the women he’s ever been with to tell them.” READ FULL STORY

Question: Do you need a date for Comic-Con? I’m totally available! I’m a pop culture wunderkind, so I’d be great for much varied and relevant conversation! —Brundy
Ausiello:
I know how this goes. You say you want stimulating conversation and then the moment we’re together you start undressing me with your eyes. Sigh. I long for the day when people start respecting me for my brains and not my brawn. I guess what I’m trying to say is…yeah, you can be my date.

Question: I’m about to go Mel Gibson on your butt if I don’t get some Smallville spoilers regarding Lois and Clark. So how ’bout it, bud? —Christine
