Scoop: 'Gilmore' guy cast as Liam's dad

It’s about time 90210 showrunner Rebecca Sinclair started exploiting her Gilmore Girls connections…

Sinclair, a onetime Gilmore producer, has tapped Scott Paterson to play Liam’s biological father in at least two episodes, sources confirm.

Which Gilmore alum should Sinclair pursue next? My vote: Liza Weil. That girl’s been away from my TV set for too long.

'90210' exclusive: 'Supernatural' being heads for the Hills

Stop the presses: 90210‘s school paper just got a hot new faculty adviser! The Ausiello Files has been told exclusively, and then of course ran right to you to blab, that Hal Ozsan has nabbed the high-profile recurring role. READ FULL STORY

'90210' boss hints at 'multiple gay relationships' on the horizon

90210-willis-lowndes_lNow that the initial shock and awe surrounding 90210‘s upcoming lesbian love story has worn off (it has, right?), it’s time to get down to business — the business of interrogating showrunner Rebecca Sinclair about the origin of the Gia-Adrianna romance, how it’ll differ from the dozens of cliché-ridden Sapphic story arcs that preceded it on primetime, and which member of the show’s male population is most likely to follow Adrianna out of the closet.

Where did the idea for the Gia-Adrianna story come from?
REBECCA SINCLAIR:
There’s been a real void in the 90210 universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters, so it was always my intention to find the right way to tell a modern story about being a non-straight — or non-entirely straight — teenager. It’s crazy that we don’t have any stories about that. READ FULL STORY

'90210' same-sex shocker: Rumer Willis to romance (spoiler alert)!

90210-kiss_lWhy should Gossip Girl be the only primetime soap having a gay ‘ol time experimenting with its characters sexuality? This January, 90210 will embark on a major same-sex storyline that will pair the show’s token lesbian, Gia, played by Rumer Willis, with another major (and heretofore straight) female character.

“This isn’t a fling,” insists executive producer Rebecca Sinclair. “We’re coming at this [relationship] from a genuine place and not going, ‘Let’s do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.’ This is a real aspect of teenager life that’s interesting… And there’s been a real void in the 90210 universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters.”

Yeah, yeah… let’s get the big question: Who will Demi’s daughter coax out of the closet and into her loving arms? READ FULL STORY

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Glee,' 'Grey's,' 'NCIS,' 'Lost,' and more!

Ask-Ausiello-Glee_lGot a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com

Question: G’day! How about you share some Glee scoop? —Vivian
Ausiello:
Okay, mate. There’s a crazy-ass rumor going around that Will will discover Terri’s faux baby plot, dump her, and then, in a moment of passion, get her pregnant for real! The really crazy-ass part? Sources confirm that two of those three things are true! And the other one? Not so much.

Question: I loved the Rachel-Puck hook-up in last week’s Glee! Is this something that the show may continue in the future? —Tiana
Ausiello:
Not in the immediate future. In the immediate future, Puck is mostly into Quinn. Which is sweet considering he knocked her up and all.

Question: I have a really fun assignment for you, Aus. Create a chart listing every Lost alum there ever was, and then next to their names, tell us where things stand in terms of them returning for the final season. I just know how much you love to make lists. —Steven
Ausiello:
I have a better idea: Let’s scrap the chart and forget we ever had this conversation. In return, I’ll share this Lost nugget with you: I hear Team Darlton will give us the answer to one of Lost‘s oldest and most confounding mysteries. And I’m pretty sure it’s an answer none of us expected to get. READ FULL STORY

Fall's best and worst: 'Modern Family,' 'Parks' and Recreation,' '90210,' 'SNL,' and more!

mccord-poehler-arm_lThe TV season is only six weeks old, but hey, it’s never too early to single out its biggest winners and losers, is it? That’s what I thought. Here goes:

Most Improved: Creatively
Parks and Recreation: When it debuted last spring, Amy Poehler’s workplace comedy was a snooze and a half. But apparently, while I was sleeping it got better. Lots better. What happened? “I don’t think magical fairy dust was sprinkled over the show,” co-creator Michael Schur says. “I just think we’re getting better at it.” Indeed, Poehler has dialed down her performance as deputy parks director Leslie Knope, and the strong supporting cast, including Rashida Jones and Aziz Ansari, is jelling.

90210: After struggling to find its own identity, the reboot has grown into the guilty pleasure we always wanted it to be. Moving AnnaLynne McCord’s immensely entertaining anti-heroine, Naomi, front and center certainly didn’t hurt. “AnnaLynne has moxie, and I wanted to tap into that,” says Rebecca Sinclair, who took over as showrunner last spring. “Plus, she’s hilarious.”

Most Disappointing: Creatively READ FULL STORY

Question: Is Emilie de Ravin going to be back on Lost for the whole season or just a few episodes? And will we get to see what happened to her? —Jared
Ausiello:
The answer to both of your questions is a resounding yeppers. Better prepare yourself though. My Lost mole says season 6 will showcase “a version of Claire we’ve never seen before — a Rousseau-esque version.” We’ll be in need of a Rousseau fix since the real version will be MIA. According to a Lost insider, the French Lady’s portrayer, Mira Furlan, turned down the show’s request to return for the final season due to a “prior overseas commitment.” Anyone know how you say “big bag-o-nuts” in français?

Question: I’m tired of people bitching about Gossip Girl being in a creative slump. I’m loving this season. Got scoop? —Alex
Ausiello:
I’m (mostly) loving this season, too. The Chuck-Blair stuff continues to be immensely satisfying. And Hilary Duff isn’t nearly as annoying as I thought she’d be. On the scoop front, there’s a big Blair-Serena blow-up coming. The frenemies will definitely be on the outs for a little bit. READ FULL STORY

Question: All I ask for is some scoop from one of my “G” shows: Glee, Greek, Gossip Girl, or Grey’s Anatomy. —April
Ausiello:
For a second there I thought I was finally going to be able to unload the humongous Gary Unmarried scoop I’ve been sitting on. Maybe next week. In the meantime, here’s something on Grey’s: Seattle Grace’s merger with Mercy West claims its first victim this week. (Hint: The pink-slipped party is female and has been around since season 1. And no, it’s not Mer. Or Izzie. Or Cristina. Or Bailey.)

Question: Is there any good Grey’s Anatomy scoop? —Bryan
Ausiello:
There is if you’re a Calzona ‘shipper: Seattle Grace’s token lesbians make it official this week. Well, officialish.

Question: Rumor has it that Ausiello has been slacking on his Gossip Girl scoop. —Tina
Ausiello:
Rumor has it you smell, but you don’t see me spreading that around, do you? Here’s your damn GG scoop: Tyra Banks’ guest turn as a tempestuous film actress in Monday’s episode is highlarious. Even better, she wasn’t trying to be funny, so you’ll be laughing at her and not with her! Awesome, right? Well, the news just keeps getting better ’cause I gots me a clip! READ FULL STORY

Scoop: 'Vampire,' '90210,' 'Melrose,' get bigger!

cw-ratings-90210_lNow here’s some spin I can get behind: The live-plus-seven-day DVR numbers from the opening week of the TV season are in, and 90210, Melrose Place, and Vampire Diaries all saw significant gains compared to live-only viewing, with 90210 getting the biggest boost. The highlights: READ FULL STORY

Question: Can you do me a huge favor and give me some Gossip Girl scoop pertaining to Blair-Serena? I’m dying to know if my favorite frenemies will be loving or hating each other this season. —Sally
Ausiello:
They’ll start out loving each other, but by November, the hate is on! What triggers the war? Let’s just say Blair doesn’t follow the bros before hos belief system (or, in this case, hos before bros).

Question: Can you please tell me if there are any good Owen and Cristina scenes in Grey’s Anatomy season premiere? I know they won’t have sex in the episode, but will the tragedy bring them closer? —Iris
Ausiello:
They have a really moving handholding scene. Does that count?

Question: After watching the Grey’s Anatomy premiere can you please tell me anything about Mer-Der? —Erin
Ausiello:
If you were among those fans who thought their Post-It note wedding was some kind of bad joke, there’s a scene at George’s funeral that should put a smile on your face. READ FULL STORY

Armchair Casting Director: '90210'

Only 90210 could issue the following casting alert and not end it with LOL. The deets…

Lila: A student at West Beverly who is both stylish and sarcastic, Lila is “chubby” and “heavier than our girls on the show.” Recurring potential.

It’s so wrong I think it might be right.

Got casting tips? Post ‘em below!

Exclusive: Size matters in '90210' promo

Here’s an exclusive sneak peek at The CW’s cheeky new promo for 90210‘s second season, featuring a first look at West Beverly’s hot new chew toy. It’s a tad naughty so parental guidance is suggested.

Ask-Ausiello_l Question: Your lack of reporting on the Veronica Mars movie has me feeling like it’s DOA. Any news on it? — Andrew
Ausiello:
Yep, but it ain’t good. At last weekend’s Saturn Awards, Kristen Bell told us, “I don’t think it will ever happen, and here’s why: [Series creator] Rob Thomas and I had a powwow, and we were both 100 percent on board. We took our proposal to Warner Bros. and Joel Silver told us that there is no enthusiasm [there] to make a Veronica Mars movie, and that is unfortunately a roadblock we cannot compete with.” But — like the rest of us, I suspect — she isn’t giving up hope. “Maybe if we bombard them with letters?” she suggests. “Maybe [then] they will change their tune.” What are you waiting for, a written invitation from Veronica Mars herself? Start bombarding Warner Bros. with letters!

Question: Do you have any Big Bang Theory scoopage? –Sara
Ausiello:
Do locusts have leg muscles that are, like, a bazillion times stronger than an equal weight of human muscle? (Yes, I broke a sweat on that one. Thanks, this site.) Although Simon “Wolowitz” Helberg says, “We are still on summer vacation — we go back August 5 — and I have not seen the first script,” he admits, “I just saw Jim ["Sheldon" Parsons], and he certainly did let on that he knew something. I just assume they will pick up right where we left off in terms of the North Pole… Maybe we needed to eat Sheldon to survive.” All kidding aside, what would the actor like to see happen this season? “It’d be interesting to see [Wolowitz] try to move out [of his mother's basement]. I would also like him to meet his father, and I would like his father to be Ringo Starr. How cool would it be if Wolowitz is the son of a Beatle? [Besides] I would actually like pants I can breathe in and an operational fly so I don’t have to pull down my pants to my ankles every time I need to pee.”

Question: Any update on Lauren Graham joining the cast of Scrubs? –Jenny
Ausiello:
As I suspected, it’s not happening. I don’t even think it got past the wish list stage.

Question: Like most Friday Night Lights fans, I was devastated to read in last week’s AA that Zach Gilford will not return as a series regular next season. Do you know how long he will return for? –Amanda
Ausiello:
It’s looking like five episodes, maybe more. And I’m a little bummed myself.

Question: Will House recover from whatever it is that landed him in the psycho ward? –Catherine
Ausiello:
You mean will he stop being crazy? “No,” says Robert Sean Leonard. “It would be like Quincy suddenly getting nice and loving examining dead bodies. There are certain things that are just givens about the show, and one is the general makeup of House’s attitude and personality. He may stop hallucinating but he’d never stop being sarcastic.” Adds series creator David Shore: “It depends on how we define better. That is the question. How sick is he? Does House want to get better? Can he get better? And how much better? And how much will the team be told and how will the dynamic shift with House away? Those are the questions we are going to deal with in the first bunch of episodes, and perhaps even the whole season to a certain extent.”

Question: Is it true that Gregory Itzin will be back on 24 next season? –Arleen
Ausiello:
That’s false.

Question: Is it true that Claire on Heroes is going to have a romantic relationship with Rachel Melvin’s new character, Annie? –Elizabeth
Ausiello:
That’s true. Kind of. I’m not sure about a full-blown relationship, but I can confirm that the college roomies will engage in a little sapphic experimentation. At least that’s the plan. Meanwhile, Hayden P. insists rumors that she tried to wiggle out of her Heroes contract at the end of the last season have been greatly exaggerated (i.e., all lies!). “I love my job and I love where I am,” she maintains. “Heroes has been such a massive part of my life. I’ve been doing it for four years, and at times you get restless; I think anyone would in any job. But I love what I do. I love my job. I love my cast members. They’re all my family. I don’t pay attention to rumors like that. That’s why they’re called rumors. ‘Cause they’re rumors.” Thanks for clearing that up!

Question: Jennifer Jason Leigh was hilarious as Nancy’s sister on Weeds. Will we see her again? –Paul
Ausiello:
If Weeds creator Jenji Kohan has anything to say about it, we will. “We loved having Jennifer on the show and were dazzled by her performance and her chemistry with our cast,” she raves. “We have no idea when she’ll be back, but we’d love to have her return if our story and her schedule align. Fingers crossed.”

Question: Is the Comic-Con meet-and-greet happening or not? My calendar is filling up! –Kevin
Ausiello:
Keep open Thursday, July 23, at 8 p.m., because that’s when I’ll be getting plastered with a bunch of Ausholes at an undisclosed San Diego-area location. Well, undisclosed to all but the first 75 of you who RSVP via ausholesunite@ew.com. Did I mention the open bar? Hurry!

Question: Any hints about who or what Annie hit at the end of 90210? –Craig
Ausiello:
It’s a person.

Question: Will we see Mekhi Phifer and/or Jennifer Beals back on Lie to Me next season? Any other new faces coming on board?–Bernd
Ausiello:
Mekhi has been promoted to a series regular, while Jennifer will continue to recur as Lightman’s ex. As far as new blood goes, we’ll meet Lightman’s longtime rival, an on-camera expert in the same field.

Question: With regard to your 24 asterisk quiz in last week’s Ask Ausiello, is it safe to say that Ethan will be promoted to Commander-in-Chief next season? –Neely
Ausiello:
You’d be safer going with Secretary of State.

Question: Now that Drea de Matteo is on Desperate Housewives, what does that mean for her character on Sons of Anarchy? –Brandon
Ausiello:
It means “she is not currently scheduled to appear in season 2,” per an FX spokesperson. Speaking of season 2, it debuts Sept. 8.

Question: Is Kyle MacLachlan seriously leaving Desperate Housewives? –Elina
Ausiello:
Nope, he’s returning. And he’ll remain a series regular.

Question: Wentworth Miller has had a few months off now. It’s time for him to get back to work. Any word on his next TV gig? –Deirdre
Ausiello:
As first scooped by TV Guide mag, he’s guest-starring in the season premiere of Law & Order: SVU as a cop who comes to the aid of a rape victim.

Question: Heroes scoop, please? –Justin
Ausiello:
Remember me telling you that producers were casting an 11-year-old version of Nathan? Well, thanks to Adrian Pasdar, now we know why! “I absorb a memory from an article of clothing that sends me back in time to when I was 11,” he explains. “Something happened to young Nathan but old Nathan doesn’t remember it. How can that be? It has to do with a character we have met before.”

Question: Regarding Ugly Betty, got any spoilers that don’t involve Matt and Betty? –Kelcy
Ausiello:
Mode’s getting a new editor! Her name’s Amber, she’s in her 20s, she’s Asian, and is a master at the backhanded compliment. Casting is under way. Also, I’m hearing (and already laughing) about a possible Mob subplot involving Hilda. BTW, congrats to Ana Ortiz on the birth of her daughter!

Question: I’m having Glee withdrawals! News, please? –James
Ausiello:
I don’t want to blow my whole Glee wad before the show even returns! Oh, who am I kidding, yes I do. MADtv‘s Michael Hitchcock — yet another Christopher Guest alum — will be appearing alongside Eve as the director of a rival choir.

Question: Ever since the news of Callum Blue being cast as Zod on Smallville was reported, there is one question we are all dying to know: Was the “Mason” role, in fact, Zod? –C.B.
Ausiello:
Yep, it sure was. Speaking of which, Justin Hartley doesn’t think a Green Arrow-Zod face-off is in the cards next season. “I have the good sense in my head to let Clark deal with [him],” he says with a laugh. “I’ll stick to dealing with the ladies. Why would I start something with that guy? That guy looks tall in photos. I don’t need a piece of that guy.”

Question: Could you kindly tell us Smallville fans what Season 9 will be
about? –Colin
Ausiello:
According to Justin Hartley, a portion of it will be about Oliver confronting his demons. “I think he is going to struggle with the things he has been afforded [as a result of] his powers,” he says. “He has sacrificed things and done things that haunt him… It’s bad stuff. We need to get to the bottom of it.”

Question: Got Greek scoop? –Karen
Ausiello:
G4 hostess Olivia Munn (Attack of the Show!) is joining the cast in the recurring role of Lana, a beautiful yet guarded waitress who doesn’t realize how drop-dead gorgeous she is.

Question: Hey, did you hear the new Smurfs movie will be in 3-D?! Anyway, do you have any more Lost scoop? –Erick
Ausiello:
May’s series finale is going to be a real downer, predicts Michael Emerson. “I don’t think Lost will have a happy ending,” he confessed to us at the Saturn Awards. “It’s the end and I think we are going to start seeing more casualties. I would put money on major characters being killed. I believe it will be a sad ending to the show — or at least bittersweet. I think it will definitely be a series finale for grown-ups.” Emerson, meanwhile, is still trying to make sense of the season 5 finale. (Join the club!) “I killed Jacob… maybe…probably,” he hedged. “It isn’t like we haven’t seen plenty of other people be killed and somehow come back. And what does it mean if I did kill him? Who the hell was he anyway? Obviously, Ben wanted a father. So much of our show is about bad fathers. It is one of our biggest themes. And Jacob disappointed in those final moments. And maybe Jacob made it easy for him. Maybe that was all meant to happen. Is it all ordained? Maybe. And for that matter, can Jacob even be killed? Stay tuned is my response.” Click here is mine.

That’s a wrap! Feed questions/comments/anonymous tips to ausielloscoop@ew.com. Thanks for playing! (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell, Missy Schwartz, and Ben Katner)
