'Today' hosts Matt Lauer and Al Roker to receive prostate exams live on air

Matt Lauer and Al Roker have done their fair share of hands-on reporting as longtime anchors of Today – and on Thursday they’ll add getting prostate exams live on the air to that list.

By having the two male hosts undergo a prostate exam, the morning show, which is also supporting the men’s health initiative No Shave November this month,  is hoping to recreate the success it saw when former co-host Katie Couric went through a colonoscopy procedure on-air back in 2000.  Nearly 6.7 million viewers tuned in to watch Couric’s live colonoscopy in March 2000.

Following the procedure administered by a doctor on set, Roker and Lauer will discuss the importance of prostate screening for men over 40.

Scarlett Johansson talks about the weather on 'Today' -- VIDEO

Scarlett Johansson’s normal neck of the woods may be Hollywood, but the star must have been looking to try something new when she was in New York City.

The actress stopped by the Today show this morning to promote her new film Hitchcock, but the talk soon turned to the weather. After learning that Al Roker was suffering from laryngitis, Johansson volunteered to take the reins. “I have a lot of experience with weather, yes,” Johansson said when questioned by Matt Lauer if she was ready for the job. “This is my dream come true.”

Later, Johansson joined the co-hosts on the plaza and the consummate performer delivered the weather forecast complete with gestures to a map (even if her locations were a little bit off!) and ended her debut as a weatherwoman with a jazz-hand pose and a kick.

NBC says Al Roker quip wasn't about Ann Curry

The Today show says Al Roker and Matt Lauer have jokingly bantered about throwing someone “under the bus” at least 27 times over the past two years.

Why does that matter? Because the most recent time Roker said it, on Thursday, it was widely interpreted as a dig against his own show for the way it removed co-host Ann Curry less than two months ago.

Lauer was speaking with members of the U.S. women’s rowing team and its tradition of throwing the coxswain in the water after winning a race, and he joked that in New York it would mean a toss into the Hudson River. Roker said it was different than Today tradition, “which is to throw one of us under the bus.”

Roker’s colleagues appeared taken aback, but spokeswoman Megan Kopf said it was not a reference to Curry, pointing to the frequency of “under the bus” banter.
