When Fiona’s in charge, you can either fight or burn.

After unleashing several photos of the newest cast additions to American Horror Story: Coven, FX continues their promotional trail for the season premiere, releasing a new 30-second trailer that takes a glimpse into third installment of the horror anthology series.

In the latest trailer, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) is whisked off to a Witch Academy where she learns tough love under the instruction of the wicked witch of the west Fiona (Jessica Lange).

With the coven bloodline at risk of extinction and war with local voodoo witches, Fiona prepares her new class for battle, toting her students through a hefty initiation that will teach them how to protect themselves. Tapping into her intimidating but luring witchcraft instructor mode, the “Supreme” whips them into shape (literally) by throwing them against walls, dragging them through dark forests, and drenching them with gasoline testing their strength as Coven witches.

“Idiots, the only thing you have to be afraid is me,” Fiona warns her new class.

FX’s third installment of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s American Horror Story: Coven has been shrouded in mystery … until now. EW is not only exclusively debuting these images of new stars Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett, but also revealing plot detail on the acclaimed series in this week’s Fall TV Preview, on stands now.

The witch-centric Coven, shot on location in New Orleans, once again stars Jessica Lange (alongside several AHS alums) but in a much different role from last year’s glum Sister Jude on AHS: Asylum. In Coven’s universe, Lange’s glam Fiona is the Wicked Witch of the West. Labeled a “Supreme” for her mighty magical abilities, Fiona is witch royalty, descended from Salem spell casters, and has spent recent years using her powers to stay fabulous, like any good aging diva.

'American Horror Story: Coven' first teaser unveiled -- VIDEO

A creepy rendition of “House of the Rising Sun” and an eerie white room of women facing the walls — this 18-second creep-out can only signal one thing: The first teaser of American Horror Story: Coven has arrived.

The FX miniseries has already taken viewers through a haunted house and an asylum, and the next stop on the horror bus is New Orleans. Zooming in on a major face-off between witches of Salem and voodoo practitioners, the third season will explore both present-day characters of the show and real historical figures of New Orleans back in the 1830s. Kathy Bates has joined the show as historical serial killer Marie Delphine LaLaurie, alongside other new stars, including Emma Roberts, and Gabourey Sidibe.

Although fans are left to wonder about most season 3 secrets, executive producer Tim Minear revealed at the TCAs the social direction taken in the upcoming new season: “I think some of the bigger themes this year is oppression of minorities of all kinds and within that idea, the idea of minority groups going after each other and doing the work for the larger culture. There’s a very strong feminist theme there, there’s also themes of race and themes of oppression and a very strong theme of family, specifically mothers and daughters.”

The third season of the FX horror drama is scheduled to premiere in October. Brave the spooky trailer, titled Detention, below:

Season 3 of American Horror Story is shaping up to be a master class in acting: EW has confirmed that Oscar-winner Kathy Bates will be squaring off against Oscar-winner Jessica Lange in the third installment of FX’s horror anthology. This marks somewhat of a horror homecoming for Bates who won the Academy Award for her role as cray cray fan Annie in Misery.

EW previously announced that AHS season one alum Taissa Farmiga would be returning along with Lange, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, and Frances Conroy. Of season three, Murphy told EW, “What we’re doing is more ambitious than what we’ve ever done.” He added, “This one will be shot on location in three different cities in the country.”

The Bates casting was originally reported by TVLine.
