'Arrow' producer says that Olicity date is not a 'fake-out'

When Arrow fans first met Oliver Queen in season one, he was Laurel’s ex-boyfriend. You know, the one who had cheated on her when he took her sister, Sara, on a boat trip, only to have the boat sink and Sara die. Or, at least, that’s what viewers thought.

By the end of the first season, Ollie is a changed man, and he and Laurel rekindle their flame—for a time. But by that point, another girl had caught the audience’s eye. Enter Felicity Smoak, the witty IT girl who nearly drooled every time Oliver walked into a room. Their relationship seemed so impossible that fans started rooting for it.

But as time went on, romance didn’t seem so impossible anymore. To recap: By the penultimate episode of the second season, Oliver and Felicity have exchanged loving glances, had loaded conversations, and even hugged, but it wasn’t until the season-two finale that fans got something bigger. Brandon Routh joins 'Arrow' as The Atom

Brandon Routh is trading in his blue and red tights for another pair of blue and red tights. EW has confirmed that the Superman Returns actor has booked a recurring role in Arrow‘s third season as Ray Palmer, a.k.a. The Atom.

According to TVLine, Ray Palmer, an “unparalleled scientist and inventor,” is Queen Consolidated’s new owner and has mysterious plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division. He is rumored to be a love interest for Felicity.

In the comics, Ray Palmer/The Atom has the power to alter the size of his body and can shrink down to subatomic levels. This is not the character’s first live-action appearance: John Kassir portrayed the character in the failed 1997 CBS pilot/TV movie Justice League of America. The Atom has also been featured in both the Young Justice and Justice League Unlimited animated series.

The Atom is the second DC Comics superhero to join Arrow in its third season. As was previously reported, Devon Aoki was cast as the classic DC Comics hero Katana.

Arrow premieres on the CW on Wednesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
