'House' and 'Lie to Me' propel fox to most-watched Monday of season; big audience for 'Harry's Law'

houseImage Credit: Harper Smith/FoxGoody for House M.D. and Lie to Me: The Fox dramas not only posted gains in adults 18-49 versus last week but helped the network to post its most-watched Monday of the TV season with entertainment programming (9 million), according to preliminary results. The medical drama earned a 3.7 rating/10 share among 18-49 – up 6% versus last week – and was also the highest rated show of the night in all the key demos. It averaged 10.4 million. Lie to Me posted a 3.7/10 in adults – up 39% versus last week – and averaged 7.6 million. Needless to say, Fox won the night in the key demo (3.1/8). Each 18-49 ratings point represents 1.3 million. As you’ll read in my interview with episode writer Will Beall (who recently signed on to pen the new Lethal Weapon movie) and creator/writer Andrew Marlowe, the repercussions of the pair’s long-awaited smooch will be just as real as that second kiss was. ‘CASTLE’: PREPARE TO FAN YOURSELVES

It’s almost here, Castle fans (who have been begging me all week for dish on the show’s big Jan. 24th episode). Almost. Here. The smooch you’ve been waiting for. And I’m happy to say that the episode is completely worth the wait. But not so fast. Don’t start picking out china patterns for the pair just yet. While the kiss is, indeed, not a dream, you know that this is still Castle. This is still Beckett. And there’s still a very important case — the one of Beckett’s mom’s murder — being investigated. That’s all I can say. On that note, however, the kiss, in my opinion, isn’t even the best part of the episode. (You probably guessed that they wouldn’t put the best part of the episode in promos, right?) I’d say there are two better moments. The first comes before the smooch when Castle is talking with his mom about his most recent brush with death, and he admits to her (in his Nathan Fillion melt-me-into-goo voice) that his time with Beckett is “*** ****t *** ****s **y****.” And the other comes sometime after the roughly 13-second smooch. 'Castle' teaser: Watch Castle, Beckett seal the deal

castleImage Credit: Michael Desmond/ABCAs Stana Katic teased to EW in November, Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Katic) are finally going to seal the deal this month. “They are going to get super close,” she told us. “Closer than they’ve ever gotten before.” Well, the moment has finally arrived, my friends:  TVLine has a pretty hot snippet of the smooch that fans have been waiting for – though the way Beckett darts her eyes while laying a wet one on Castle suggests that maybe her heart (or her mind) isn’t fully invested in the moment. What’s going on, woman?

For her part, Katic keeps saying to anyone who will listen that these two belong together. “They are meant to be. I think they can be a couple and still be spicy and funny,” she told EW. “Everyone else is like, ‘Oh no we can’t do that. That will ruin it. That will kill the show.’ [A Moonlighting] curse has come up. But no way, man. Don’t believe in it at all.”

The episode airs Jan. 24. Meanwhile, Castle has already received a full season pickup for 2011-12.

'Skating With the Stars' posts a season low; a tough night for 'American Country Awards' and 'Castle'

A bunch of shows hit season lows on Monday, with specials like the American Country Awards practically dead on arrival. Perhaps you were shopping? Those who did tune in chose CBS over everybody else: The network won the night in adults 18-49 (3.3 rating/9 share) and viewers (10.5 million), even though only two of its shows posted gains versus their last original episodes.  How I Met Your Mother was up 3 percent to a  3.6/10 (9.4 million) and Rules of Engagement was up 7 percent to a 3.1/8 (8.8 million), but Two and a Half Men hit a season low with a 4.1/10 (13.3 million), as did Mike & Molly (3.4/8, 11 million), and Hawaii Five-O (2.7/7, 10.2 million). Each 18-49 rating point represents 1.3 million viewers.

NBC finished second for the night in the demo (2.4/6) and viewers (7.3 million), with the two-hour special The Sing-Off posting a 22 percent gain versus last year (2.8/7) and averaging 8.5 million. Chase, however was down 6 percent versus last week (1.5/4) and only lured 5 million.

Fox and ABC were tied for third among 18-49 (1.5/4) while the Alphabet finished third in viewers (6 million) followed by Fox (5.9 million). Skating With The Stars posted another dreadful rating – a season low of 1.0/3, down 17 percent versus last week. It averaged 4.8 million. (You think ABC will renew this show?) There was a repeat of Modern Family, which did no favors for Castle: The drama earned a season low of 2.2/6 – down 12 percent from its last original on Nov. 15. It averaged 8.6 million.

Fox aired the American Country Awards, which earned a mere 1.4/5 in the demo and drew 6 million viewers.

'Modern Family' tops 'Glee' in viewers 18-49 after DVR ratings added in week 9

Modern Family has something to be very gleeful about in week 9 of the television season. After DVR ratings were factored in, the ABC comedy surpassed Glee‘s ratings among viewers 18-49 during the week ending Nov. 21, making it the No. 1 scripted show in that demographic with 6.3 million. Glee, meanwhile, stood strong with 6.2 million viewers in the demo, and Grey’s Anatomy rounded out the top three with 5.8 million.

Here’s a look at the top ten in overall DVR viewers:

1) Hawaii Five-0 (CBS): 3.21 million gained from DVRs*
2) Modern Family (ABC): 3.14 million
3) Grey’s Anatomy (ABC): 2.94 million
4) The Mentalist (CBS): 2.83 million
5) Glee (FOX): 2.68 million
6) NCIS (CBS): 2.54 million
7) Castle (ABC): 2.51 million
8 ) Criminal Minds (CBS): 2.44 million
9) The Good Wife (CBS): 2.37 million
10) House (FOX): 2.35 million

* DVR playback is measured by the number of viewers who watch their recordings within seven days of the show’s airing

'Castle' scoop: Will Castle seal deal with Beckett?

castleImage Credit: Michael Desmond/ABCNow this is one mother-of-a-teaser for you Castle fans who’ve been aching for Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) to seal the deal. Talking exclusively to EW, Katic teased that all their sexual tension may finally lead to something on Jan. 10. “They are going to get super close in episode 13. Closer than they’ve ever gotten before,” the actress said while walking the red carpet of the American Music Awards on Sunday. “I’ll leave you with that.”

Katic keeps saying to anyone who will listen that these two belong together. “They are meant to be. I think they can be a couple and still be spicy and funny. Everyone else is like, ‘Oh no we can’t do that. That will ruin it. That will kill the show.’ [A Moonlighting] curse has come up. But no way, man. Don’t believe in it at all.”

Until then, obstacles continue to arise. Just this week, the ABC drama began production on the Jan. 3 episode that stars Laura Prepon as Natalie Gray, the actress who’s been cast as Nikki Heat in the movie version of Castle’s book Heat Wave. As fans know, the author based Nikki on his beloved Beckett. So will sparks fly when Natalie shadows Beckett as she investigates a millionaire matchmaker death with Castle? “She comes in to trail Beckett and study her, learn about her,” says Fillion, who also walked the red carpet Sunday. “Castle is really cheesed because she has never read the books. She’s only read the screenplay and she’s just into the character and not the words or the man who created Nikki Heat. At first he was like, ‘I can’t believe they picked her,’ and now he’s all, ‘I can’t believe she isn’t paying attention to me.’ It causes some friction at the workplace to say the least. He likes to be the center of attention.”

“Beckett is okay with it at first,” adds Katic. “Beckett’s the one who invites her in and figures it will be no different than Castle following her, but then it starts to get a little too Single White Female.” – With reporting from Carrie Bell

We’ll soon discover that a member of said club shares a past with House‘s “immutable obstacle,” as Dr. Crankenstein calls her. Other colorful nicknames assigned to the newbie on her first day of work include:
