The final episode of Chelsea Lately was a star-studded extravaganza, featuring appearances by Ellen Degeneres, Sandra Bullock, 50 Cent, and Jennifer Aniston—as well as a retrospective dedicated to Chuy, the show’s trusty sidekick. But Chelsea Handler is so ready to quit sharing a network with the Kardashians.
She’s kicking off a multi-tier partnership with Netflix with her first-ever standup special, Uganda Be Kidding Me, on Oct. 10. The deal also includes four new docu-specials in 2015 and a new series to premiere in 2016. While everyone—including Netflix—has been referring to that future series as a “talk show,” Handler seems to be leaning toward a format that’ll be totally different from her gossipy E! show. How so? Let Chelsea explain: READ FULL STORY
Ellen DeGeneres never appeared on Chelsea Lately during the show’s seven-year run, so she took the series finale as an opportunity to ask host Chelsea Handler why—while Handler was showering. READ FULL STORY
Ready for Chelsea Anytime?
Netflix announced Thursday morning that Chelsea Handler has signed a “groundbreaking,” multi-tiered deal with the streaming service, which includes a standup special, four “docu-comedy specials”—and, most importantly, “the first-ever talk show for the global on-demand generation,” which is set to premiere in 2016.
Details about the new show—including its name—are scarce for now, though a release notes that it will feature an “updated format,” as well as at least one talk show staple (guest interviews). READ FULL STORY
Chelsea Handler’s time spent interviewing Hollywood stars (and showering with some of them) is coming to an end. E! has announced that Chelsea Lately will end its seven-year run on August 26.
“We are very proud of Chelsea Lately’s long-running success and the unique space that the series carved out in late night television,” E! President Suzanne Kolb said in a press release. “Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition. Most of all, we are grateful to the Chelsea Lately team for making this show so special for seven years.”
Earlier this week, Chelsea Handler posted a photo on her Instagram of a large dog sitting on her lap — but the dog isn’t what got people talking. It was the CBS logo on the piece of paper Handler’s holding in the photo that sparked rumors she was in talks with the network for a new talk show.
With all the recent changes in late night TV, Handler had been one of the names being tossed around as a replacement for David Letterman — before Stephen Colbert was officially named last week. But, Handler squashed those CBS rumors on The Ellen Degeneres Show Thursday saying she has no plans to go on a regular network.
Lindsay Lohan is about to be the queen of the small screen. First she lined up an interview and docu-series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network, and now she’s taking over E!’s Chelsea Lately as guest host next week, EW has confirmed.
The actress — whose latest movie, The Canyons, arrives in theaters Friday — will take the reins from host Chelsea Handler during Monday’s show. Lohan has a history with Handler: She made a run at a “comeback” (one of many attempted by the embattled celeb) at the 2010 MTV VMAs in a pre-taped opening with Handler, that year’s host.
