On Tuesday night, The Voice said goodbye to Cole Vosbury and James Wolpert before crowning season 5’s top three contestants. EW was on the scene at the live elimination show and got the chance to chat with the newly eliminated contestants right after the show wrapped.
Team Adam’s James Wolpert was the first of two contestants to be eliminated during the semifinals, and the Pittsburgh local said he wasn’t surprised. “I was super prepared for it, but it’s still painful when you’re up there and you have to say goodbye to everybody in the moment,” said Wolpert, who’s looking at being eliminated as “an opportunity to start looking toward the future.”
As for what’s next, it sounds as though Wolpert plans to hit the ground running now that his time on The Voice has come to an end. The singer said he already has “frameworks and very vague foundations” for his own original music. “I think the next goal is going to be to cut a record as soon as I can…and put that out into the universe and go on tour as soon as possible.”
Like Wolpert, Vosbury “just kind of sensed” that he would be going home this week. “Even though I was praying for a miracle, I knew my number was up today, so today was a different experience. I think me and James both were just kind of like, ‘Yeah, it’s us two. It’s going to be us two.’ We knew it all day long.”
