'Liz & Dick' producer talks the risky business of hiring Lindsay Lohan, giving Taylor and Burton a chance to speak from 'Hollywood heaven'

On Sunday, Lifetime premieres Liz & Dick, its Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton biopic starring Lindsay Lohan and Grant Bowler. Exec producer Larry Thompson openly admits Lohan brought with her a younger demographic (and headlines) but also risk. He first met with Lohan about the project last December but cameras didn’t roll until June. “When we first met with her, she had two probations, and when we finally closed the deal with her, there was only one probation,” Thompson says. “If we couldn’t have gotten insurance, there would have been no movie. We wound up having to go to Lloyd’s of London to get what we called incarceration insurance…. We had to protect ourselves that if she were to have violated her probation during production, we wouldn’t have had to close down and lose our movie.” READ FULL STORY

Barbara Walters set to interview Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan will sit down for a one-on-one chat with Barbara Walters in the next few weeks, a source close to the situation confirmed to EW. The talk is pegged to Lohan’s role in the Lifetime original movie Liz & Dick, premiering Nov. 25.

TMZ, who first reported the news, says Walters expressed an interest in interviewing Lohan when she was cast as Elizabeth Taylor, and that the chat will focus on the parallels between the two actresses.

The parallels have been discussed before – Lifetime’s advertising campaign for the television movie revolves around Taylor’s own troubles. READ FULL STORY

'Liz & Dick' premiere date announced

The countdown to the triumph and/or catastrophe can officially begin!

Lindsay Lohan’s Elizabeth Taylor biopic for Lifetime, Liz & Dick, finally has a release date. It will premiere on the cable channel on Sunday, November 25, at 9 p.m. ET.

In a behind-the-scenes trailer released last week, the TV movie — which will span multiple decades  —  was touted as Lohan’s “first starring role in five years” and declared “Lindsay is back.”

In addition to Lohan as Taylor, the movie will star New Zealand-born TV vet Grant Bowler as Richard Burton.

New 'Liz & Dick' trailer proclaims 'Lindsay is back'

In a new behind-the-scenes video for Liz & Dick, the producers point out the similarities between Elizabeth Taylor, and the woman who is portraying her, Lindsay Lohan. Touting “her first starring role in five years,” the video proclaims that “Lindsay is back.”

“It was the start of the exploitation of celebrity,” Grant Bowler, who portrays Richard Burton, explains. He also refers to Lohan as “pretty much Elizabeth Taylor reincarnated.”

“I’m a huge Elizabeth Taylor fan, and I relate to her on a lot of levels,” Lohan added. “Living in the public eye, dealing with the stress of what other people say, whether it’s true or not.”

Though we’re still not sure whether Liz & Dick is a triumph or a train wreck, this salacious teaser trailer for Lifetime’s anticipated Elizabeth Taylor biopic — starring Lindsay Lohan and New Zealand-born TV vet Grant Bowler — demonstrates how the network is hoping to use Lohan’s tabloid appeal to drum up interest. When the actress appears onscreen next to words like “infamous,” “scandalous,” and “dangerous,” the parallel being drawn between the off-screen drama of Liz and Linds is pretty obvious.

If you thrill to the sound of lines clearly softened for a basic cable audience (“You’re screwing that witch?”) or the image of a drunk woman dramatically throwing a bottle at her lover, this is the trailer for you. Get a preview of “this year’s most controversial, provocative, scandal love affairs diamonds paparazzi, biggest television event” — and yes, that’s a direct quote — below:

Lifetime releases poster for 'Liz & Dick' -- PHOTO

On the heels of Lindsay Lohan’s arrest in New York, Lifetime has released the official poster for her upcoming TV movie Liz & Dick.  And while the words are ostensibly about Elizabeth Taylor, in another case of art imitating life (or vice versa?) they ring true for the troubled starlet as well.

“Controversial Love Affairs. Child Star. Tabloid Front Page. Scandal,” the poster reads.

Unions inspect Lindsay Lohan's Liz Taylor movie after reports of exhaustion

Two Hollywood unions are scrutinizing worker safety and welfare on Lindsay Lohan’s TV movie Liz & Dick after the actress tweeted that she was exhausted because of long production days. Larry A. Thompson, producer of the Lifetime movie starring Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor, said Wednesday that no violations were found in one union’s review.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists confirmed its representatives visited the production. It said it “will continue to visit” to enforce guild rules. “We have spoken with representatives from the company, and they are fully aware of their contractual obligations. We will ensure that all applicable penalties will be paid,” the guild said in a statement. READ FULL STORY

'Liz & Dick' costumer on Lindsay Lohan as Liz Taylor: 'There was an audible gasp in the room'

If the first official image of Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor for Lifetime’s original movie Liz & Dick looked familiar, perhaps you grew up reading Life magazine. The promotional shot is a re-staging of an unused image from the April 19, 1963 issue, which reported the production of Cleopatra. “That was an easy one to reproduce, and we just went out and found them both period mock turtlenecks. We took the picture and there was an audible gasp in the room because it was so right on,” says the film’s costumer Salvadore Perez, who spent three weeks researching photos of the couple. “They were the most photographed couple in the world, so doing research was actually quite easy. You can Google almost any event in their lives, and there was a photo of it.” READ FULL STORY

Lindsay Lohan gets leading man for Elizabeth Taylor biopic

Lifetime provoked a frenzy of response last month when it cast Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor in its biopic Liz & Dick. In a move that probably won’t generate quite the same divided and clamorous reaction, the network has selected Grant Bowler to play Richard Burton, Oscar-nominated actor and famed lover of the Hollywood icon, EW has confirmed.

Bowler is recognizable to True Blood fans as V-addicted werewolf Cooter and to Ugly Betty fans as Wilhelmina’s love interest.

“Grant will add gravitas to our couple and bring to life one of the greatest actors who has ever lived,” the biopic’s executive producer, Larry A. Thompson, told Deadline, who first reported the news.

Burton starred opposite Taylor in Cleopatra, and their romance was making headlines not long after. The actor was Taylor’s fifth husband.
