'Eureka' final episode 'amazing'; expect shocker next week

Eureka‘s co-creator Jaime Paglia and stars Colin Ferguson and Neil Grayston promised the show’s final episode will deliver for fans, and say next week’s episode is a shocker. “When you’re not coming back [for another season] you can hit things a little harder,” Ferguson told critics at a press conference in Pasadena. “It’s an amazing episode.

“We’re going out on best season that we’ve done,” Ferguson said of the show, which returned for its fifth and final season on Monday. “Like hands down. It’s not even debatable.”

So here that? Don’t even try to debate it!

“We wrote it in record time,” added Paglia of the series finale. “We broke the story in two days and wrote it in three. And the thing I’m most proud of about this entire experience … was we were able to pull that off without it being horrendous and stressful.’” READ FULL STORY

'Eureka'! Syfy orders one final episode -- plus, Erica Cerra speaks out

Eureka fans, brace yourself for one more twist.

You know the show was renewed for a sixth season, canceled, then had its final six episodes retracted. Now Syfy is adding one final hour to the show’s upcoming fifth season so writers can wrap things up. It doesn’t take a math genius to calculate the fluctuating final episode count for Eureka, but it doesn’t hurt either (13 + 6 – 6 + 1 = 14). And that is it — no more revisions (we think).

It seems production on season 5 is nearly finished, and episode 13 is one of the show’s characteristic cliffhangers. Producers needed an extra hour to give fans any kind of closure.

Erica Cerra, who plays Deputy Jo Lupo on the show, spoke to EW about the cancelation. A month ago, she said, the cast was still optimistic. “I figure we were getting sixth season for sure, 13 if not more,” Cerra said. “Then we learned we were only getting six and were disappointed — the numbers were going up and the show was getting better. But we were still happy with the six and knew they could have created a great ending.”

The 13-episode fifth season that was ordered last year, which includes a holiday special, is going to be the final season of Eureka.

Here’s a statement from Syfy: READ FULL STORY

Syfy renews 'Eureka,' and is 'hopeful' it will continue

What’s going on with Eureka?

Syfy confirms its ordered a mere six episodes for a sixth season of the veteran sci-fi drama. But the network seems to be disputing a report that the shortened order definitely marks the end of the series.

In a statement issued to EW, Mark Stern, president of programing at Syfy, says: “[Producers] Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia have brought a creative vitality to Eureka that has kept it fresh and inventive. Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise.”

Notice Stern says “franchise” at the end here instead of “show” or “series.” Spin-off? Hmm…

Exclusive First Look: 'Eureka' season 4 poster!

eurekaImage Credit: Art Streiber/SyfyNo one can accuse Syfy of downplaying the addition of James Callis to the Eureka cast. The Battlestar Galactica thesp is literally the focal point of the show’s official season 4 poster. Story-wise, the image suggests that the group shares a secret that, to a large degree, ties in with the arrival of Callis’ character, physicist Dr. Grant. Or maybe it’s just a cool piece of artwork. We’ll know for sure when the fourth season gets under way next Friday. Will you be watching?
