See Lifetime's 'William & Kate'! -- PHOTO

We’ve seen plenty of photos of the real-life Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are set to wed in a media extravaganza April 29. So let’s change things up a little bit: Hitting the Web today is a photo of Lifetime’s fictional William and Kate, played by Nico Evers-Swindell and Camilla Luddington, stars of the network’s upcoming TV movie William & Kate. (What, did you expect a different title?) What can we expect from the telefilm? “We want to tell the story of how their friendship came to be and how this blossomed into a romantic love affair,” Lifetime President Nancy Dubuc tells EW. “I think the world is waiting to be charmed in the way we were charmed by Diana. We want to remind ourselves of the fantasy of being a princess or queen.”

Joel McHale: 10 ways I'll screw up as host of the Independent Spirit Awards

Joel-McHaleImage Credit: Kyle Christy/IFCHe scores laughs for NBC (Community) and sends up reality lowlights for E! (The Soup). Now it’s time for Joel McHale to work his raised-eyebrow magic for IFC as he hosts the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards (Saturday at 10 p.m ET/PT)  How could he possibly screw up this important gig? McHale revealed his 10 ways to EW.

1. Open the show by declaring “Welcome to the Oscars!”

2. Introduce the new President of the Independent Spirit Awards, Hosni Mubarak.

3. Replace the tinkling piano keys that alert winners when their acceptance speeches are running long with a deeply thunderous fart sound effect. READ FULL STORY »

Aron-RalstonImage Credit: Lewis Jacobs/NBC; Chuck ZlotnickAron Ralston, whose experiences and book served as the basis for 127 Hours, will be putting his great-outdoors-honed skills to the test on the task-oriented NBC game show Minute to Win It, airing tonight at 8 p.m. ET. SAG Awards 2011: Backstage with Julianna Margulies, 'Modern Family,' Melissa Leo of 'The Fighter,' and many more

modern-family-sag-awardsImage Credit: Lester Cohen/WireImage.comWhat happens after the SAG Award winners accept their statuettes, give their speeches, and head off stage? They go backstage for a mini-media tour, of course, where they talk to the press and eventually make their way back to the main press room to take questions from all sorts of reporters, including yours truly from EW. It wasn’t until nearly an hour after the show started that the first winner made her way to the press room (thanks to The Good Wife’s Julianna Margulies!), but after that, the winners came through in a near-constant parade, glowing all the way over the accolades they’d just gotten from their fellow actors. Here, enjoy a minute-by-minute, fly-on-the-wall account of the winners’ tours backstage from the Screen Actors Guild Awards press room.

5:56 p.m. PT: The Good Wife’s Julianna Margulies — who took home a trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series — appears as the first winner to come backstage, looking composed and beautiful as always. (Would you honestly expect anything less?) Margulies talks about several topics, but most interestingly, how the most nerve-wracking part of the night is always the red carpet. She also tells the press about her first movie role, way back in 1994: She played, in her words, “a hooker with a heart of gold” opposite Steven Seagal in Out for Justice.

Roger Ebert will wear prosthetic chin on new show

roger-ebertImage Credit: Jason Merritt/Getty ImagesEbert Presents At the Movies debuts Friday on PBS, and the show is a return for Roger Ebert in more ways than one. In a blog post today, he revealed that he will be wearing a prosthetic chin for his “Roger’s Office” segment. “That’s not to fool anyone, because my appearance is widely known,” he writes. “It will be used in a medium shot of me working in my office, and will be a pleasant reminder of the person I was for 64 years. Symbolically, it’s as if my illness never happened and, hey, here I still am, on the show with these new kids. When people see the ‘Roger’s Office’ segment, they’ll notice my voice more than my appearance.” Ebert, whose battle with thyroid cancer left him disfigured an unable to speak without the aid of a computer, describes the two-year process of those who worked with him to create the silicone prosthesis, a device that fits over the lower face and neck and matches his skin tone. He also explains the appeal Gerard Butler’s chic mask in 2004′s Phantom of the Opera held for him. Read his full blog entry, complete with photos, here.

Ricky Gervais' rudest Golden Globes jokes

golden-globes-gervaisImage Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBCThis post started as “Ricky Gervais’  Funniest Golden Globes Jokes” but, really, when it comes to Gervais, his lines that rip the Hollywood elite tend to get more people buzzing than the ones that are merely funny. Here are the biggest zingers from the Golden Globes host:

– “Welcome to a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it: breakfast.”

– “I’d like to quash this ridiculous rumor going around that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so the HFPA could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish. That is not the only reason. They also accepted bribes.” (That line is what presumably prompted the HFPA president to shoot back, “Ricky, next time you want me to help you qualify your movies, go to another guy.”)

– “Nothing for Sex and the City 2. I was sure the award for best special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster.”

More jokes and VIDEO of Gervais’ monologue after the jump…

Jim Carrey on 'Inside the Actor's Studio': See an EXCLUSIVE clip here

Jim-Carrey-Actors-StudioImage Credit: Barbara Nitke/BravoThe dream James Lipton has pursued for 17 years has finally come true. That’s right, Jim Carrey at last accepted his long-standing invitation to appear on Inside the Actors Studio. When Lipton started his landmark interview series on Bravo in 1994, he had become enamored of Carrey’s work on Fox’s sketch comedy show In Living Color. “His was one of the first invitations I ever sent out,” Lipton says. Initial guests included Paul Newman, Dennis Hopper, and Sally Field. “But Jim’s extremely shy. It was a marathon getting him on. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to do it — he just didn’t have the courage.”  READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive: How will we survive without 'The Walking Dead'? Exec producers Robert Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd offer some suggestions

the-walking-dead-graphic-bookSo the first season of The Walking Dead is over and it seems likely the show won’t return until October which, according to EW’s calendar experts, is still around ten months away. But don’t panic! EW has compiled a list of undead-oriented entertainment activities to help pass the time with a little help from Walking Dead executive producers Robert Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd and one of our zombie cover stars, Charles Casey. 'Walking Dead' writer Robert Kirkman talks about last night's explosive finale: 'I wish we had killed more people this season'

the-walking-deadThe Walking Dead has stopped walking (and shambling, and lying about going “Uuurgh!”), at least for now. Last night’s first season finale of AMC’s zombie show ended with a bang, literally, as the CDC blew itself up, incinerating both Jeryl Prescott’s Jacqui and Noah Emmerich’s Dr. Jenner. But what did Jenner whisper to Rick? Could Rick and his fellow survivors be heading to France (home of fine wine, foul cigarettes and, it seems, top notch zombie experts)? Will Michael Rooker’s Merle return in season two? And is my heterosexual man-crush on Norman Reedus’ Daryl getting way out of hand?

We put all these questions, and so many more, to Robert Kirkman, writer of the Walking Dead comic book and an executive producer of the show.

'Walking Dead' exclusive: Exec producer Gale Anne Hurd denies Frank Darabont fired writers, talks season two

hurd-walking-deadImage Credit: Jerod Harris/Getty Images; AMCIn an interview with EW, The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens) denies reports that director Frank Darabont fired the hit AMC show’s writing staff. She also confirmed that all of the principal cast — or, presumably, the actors whose characters are still alive at the end of this Sunday’s season finale — are signed up for multiple seasons of the zombie show.

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Shawshank Redemption filmmaker Frank Darabont — who developed the Walking Dead for television and directed the pilot — had let go the show’s writers, including Murder One co-creator Charles “Chic” Eglee. But earlier today, Hurd refuted that allegation. READ FULL STORY »

Kevin Costner talks hosting CMT's 'Artists of the Year' concert and why he won't come to TV -- except for maybe a cartoon

Kevin-CostnerImage Credit: J. Michael Arnoldi/PR PhotosTonight in Nashville, Kevin Costner will host the inaugural CMT Artists of the Year concert celebrating Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, and Zac Brown Band — some of whom have chosen to perform their own songs, some of whom will leave that up to the likes of Adele and Maroon 5. (The 90-minute special airs Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. ET.) Chatting with EW earlier this month, Costner admitted he turned down the gig a couple of times. “I didn’t feel like this was the natural place for me to be, but they disagreed,” he said. Costner and his band, Modern West, have been playing live in and around Nashville for the last two or three years. The band is the reason he’s there, but they won’t be performing. ”I wouldn’t use the evening for that,” he promised. “It’s about [the honorees].”

Since Costner couldn’t yet tell us if our dream of the show opening with a skit in which Taylor Swift pens a song about meeting him will come true, we asked him a few questions he could answer:

Why is he in a band again? “The reason I did music was I wanted to play live wherever I was making movies. I just really felt the need to quit being somebody who was spotted in the supermarket. I thought if I’m gonna be in a community for two or three months, then I would like to have an authentic relationship with that community, and the best way I know, other than the autograph, is to actually perform.” You’d expect most movie actors to be wary of that kind of contact with fans. Not Costner. “There’s a little bit to worry about, like people turning their back on you and walking away. When you play live, you are putting yourself in an authentic moment of drama — like what’s gonna really happen? The curiosity if you’re known for one thing is going to travel with you, and travel into that evening. You’ve got to quickly overcome it. I enjoy playing live. I like the drama of it.”

Would he ever consider starring in Hound Dogs, the minor league baseball comedy pilot his Bull Durham writer (and Tin Cup writer/director) Ron Shelton is developing for TBS? “Being able to go off to make a movie with him would be one thing. I would work with Ron again in a second. Being attached to a series is not something I would want to do at this point. The work load of being involved with something like [that] would probably overshadow some of the things that I’m doing myself.” (Follow-up question: Yes, he would read a Bull Durham sequel script; no, he hasn’t seen one.)

What is he working on now? “I’ve developed a cartoon with a group of guys that I hope will see the light of day. It’s very literate. I think that’s why it’s having so much trouble,” he said with a laugh. “I’m trying to find the right financing to put it forward. It probably represents about 50 hours of content. It’s swashbuckling, it’s violent, it’s acidic. It’s really cool. It’d be as if you were on an island, and you found three books: One was Jules Verne, one was Charles Dickens, and one was maybe Arabian Nights. It’s high adventure and it’s not based on any source material. It would start off as a series, but it would quickly mold into a feature because of the way it could be cast.”  READ FULL STORY »

'Walking Dead' writer Robert Kirkman talks about last night's episode and teases next week's season finale

walking-dead-posterCorpse disposal was much on the minds of the Walking Dead characters in last night’s episode, “Wildfire,” following the campfire massacre of the preceding week. The show’s simple, but contentious, conundrum? What to do with the bodies of loved ones that could turn into zombies who love the taste of bodies?

The answers were varied. While Andrea took a heartbroken age to shoot Amy, Norman Reedus’ Daryl wasted no time pickaxeing in the head any corpse that moved, or at least looked like it might do so. Meanwhile, poor Jim was left to zombie-ficate by the side of the road as the rest of the diminished band of survivors headed off to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (which, as I’ve noted elsewhere, really seems to have been sleeping on the job with regard to both control and prevention. I will be extremely disappointed if Noah Emmerich’s CDC scientist gets a bonus this Christmas).

Who can we blame for all this cruel and bloody mayhem? Well, we can start with Robert Kirkman, who is a writer and executive producer on the show and also pens the still ongoing Walking Dead comic book (the thirteenth collected volume, Too Far Gone, has just hit stores). After the jump, the scribe answers our questions about last night’s episode, teases next week’s season finale, and ruminates on the possibility that coming back to life as a member of the drooling undead may actually be “awesome.”
