'Friday Night Lights' Emmy nominees Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton reflect on first impressions, lasting friendship, and saying goodbye

friday-night-lightsImage Credit: Justin Stephens/NBCNine words I hoped I’d never have to say: Eric and Tami Taylor have gone their separate ways. I’m not talking about the ironclad couple at the heart of Friday Night Lights but rather their exceptional portrayers, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. Although the show’s fifth and final season has yet to air (it premieres on DirecTV this fall), the cast and crew wrapped weeks ago in Austin, at which point Britton moved back to Los Angeles, leaving Chandler behind in Texas with his wife and their two daughters. Here, in their first interview together since production ended, the actors look back on their five-year work marriage, reveal the secret behind that groundbreaking onscreen relationship, and argue over whom they’re rooting for most come Emmy night. Question: As of today, I have officially seen every single episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and now I don’t know what to do with myself! Grey’s scoop, please! —Bea
Ausiello:
Even though nearly two months will have passed since the shooting rampage, Derek will still be in pretty bad shape when the season starts. And I’m not talking physically.

Ausiello:
A major character will be sent directly to jail by the end of the episode. Hint: This person has already been name-checked in this week’s AA.

Question: Do you know if NCIS will deal more with what happened to Ziva in Somalia? —Carlee

Emmy predix: Who will win best lead and supporting actress in a drama?

ausiello-emmy-predictionsImage Credit: Glenn Watson/USA Network; John Paul Filo/CBS; AMC; Paul Drinkwater/NBCEmmy handicapping is normally a crapshoot, but I’m feeling pretty confident about my picks for best lead and supporting actress in a drama. I’m also (still) feeling a little peeved about the long list of drama queens that voters neglected to single out. Herewith is part 2 of my pre-Emmy analysis… READ FULL STORY »

emmy-drama-actorsImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABC; Danny Feld; AMC; Justin Stephens/NBCNow that the Emmy nominations have been announced, it’s time to get down to the business of predicting who will emerge victorious on Aug. 29. Each week between now and Emmy night, I’ll be taking a closer look at the major categories and singling out the frontrunners, the dark horses, and — because my bitterness knows no expiration date — the most unforgivable snubs. (During this time, my esteemed colleagues Lynette Rice and Ken Tucker will also be offering their kudos insight as well.) First up: Outstanding Lead and Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. 'Friday Night Lights' MVP Connie Britton on Emmy nod: 'There must be some mistake'

connie-brittonShortly after Connie Britton learned that she’d finally scored an Emmy nomination for her impeccable work on Friday Night Lights, the lead-actress contender rang me up to share her reaction, as well as her feelings about the series’ imminent end. (She and the gang are—gulp!—just two weeks away from shooting the finale.) Now, I don’t wanna say she had to call me, although I did do everything but go door-to-door to ATAS voters’ houses to make sure they had checked her name on their ballots. Okay, she had to call me. There, I said it. Below, her thoughts: READ FULL STORY »

Question: Is John Casey’s daughter, Alex (Mekenna Melvin), going to be a series regular next season on Chuck? —Charles

Ausiello:
You’re not the only one. I like Terri. But more importantly, series creator Ryan Murphy likes Terri — and he proved it by picking up her series-regular option for season 2 (albeit at a slightly reduced guarantee). Well, technically speaking, Twentieth Television picked up her option, but I’m sure Murphy had a hand in it. READ FULL STORY »
