Question: Can you please give us some House news that is not about Huddy? —Monica
Ausiello:
Here’s something: Series creator David Shore confirms that producers are casting a new female doc to fill the temporary void left by Olivia Wilde. “We’re working on it,” he tells me. “There’s no definitive answer, [but] it’s something we’re figuring out.”

Question: Last week you asked if anyone watches My Boys other than the very question-y “Kim.” I do! As a girl who’s always been equally boy-crazy and sports-crazy, I completely dig the show, and I’ve seen every episode. —Darcy
Ausiello:
Thanks for letting me know. I will sleep much easier tonight, Kim. READ FULL STORY »

Question: This House fan thanks you for posting that awesome Huddy picture! This House fan is also going to be greedy and ask you what else you know about the season premiere? —Julia
Ausiello:
A fellow Trojan tipped me off that Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein were on the USC campus Tuesday night shooting “some Huddy-ness.” Added the anonymous bystander: “They were kissing, hugging, and hand-holding. It was a fangirl’s dream come true. She had on the same outfit as in the beach pictures.” Speaking of those cutesy beach photos, series creator David Shore tells me that all may not be as it seems. “What the image depicts is rather different from what you’re going to experience when you watch the episode,” he reveals. “They’re [at the beach], but it’s not Beach Blanket Bingo.”

Question: I heard a rumor that David Anders will be a regular next season on The Vampire Diaries. Please tell me that it’s true! —Addison
Ausiello:
I would if I could, but I can’t. But here’s something I can confirm: Anders will definitely be in the season premiere. READ FULL STORY »

Ausiello:
I can’t be certain, but I think I just uncovered a significant clue about the overriding plot of season 6: Sources confirm to me exclusively that X-Files vet Mitch Pileggi is in talks to reprise his role as Sam and Dean’s presumed-dead grandpa on a potentially recurring basis.

Question: Any scoop on the new season of Torchwood? —Craig
Ausiello:
Starz wasn’t kidding when it said the new season would be more global in scope. I’m hearing the show will shoot a chunk of the season on location in Los Angeles. Captain Jack’s going Hollywood!

Question: Word on the street is that House started filming its seventh season on June 14. Other word on the street is you want to be voted Sexiest Celeb Vegetarian of 2010. If you can give me some scoop about the former, I might just help you out with the latter. —Janine
Ausiello: You’ve got yourself a deal. Unconfirmed buzz suggests that Huddy fans will be in a state of continuous orgasm throughout House‘s season premiere this fall.

'Friday Night Lights' exclusive: Zach Gilford returns!

friday-night-lightsImage Credit: Bill Records/NBCWith Emmy buzz swirling around him like mosquitoes on a Texas football field, Zach Gilford has inked a deal to return to Friday Night Lights for a sizeable arc during the show’s fifth and likely final season. The news comes as the actor is enjoying the best reviews of his career for an episode in which his character, Matt, mourned the death of his father. The tear-jerking hour first drew attention last fall when it aired on DirectTV, but it was an encore telecast on NBC earlier this month that lit up Twitter and led fans to start a Facebook campaign aimed at getting him a much-deserved Emmy nod (in the guest actor category.) What does Gilford think of all the attention? And what brings Matt back to Dillon? The actor rang me with the 411 as he was about to hop a plane to Austin to film his first of four FNL episodes. Question: I love the idea of Lynda Carter playing Ma Bartowski on Chuck. Do you know if she’s seriously being considered for the role? —Andy
Ausiello:
I asked Josh Schwartz that very question and here’s what the boss man had to say: “I’m a big fan of women with lassos. [Lynda's] an icon as an actress and is someone who fits the show’s universe…but not necessarily for this role.” Translation: It’s a long shot. So what kind of actress is he looking for to play Chuck’s MIA spy ma? “I don’t want to shed too much light on the character,” he hedges, “but we need someone who can kick ass.” Okay, let’s go with my second choice then: Jamie Lee Curtis. Who’s with me?

Question: I’m looking for a Community bulletin. —Frida
Ausiello:
If by that you mean, will I give you some fall scoop, sure, Frida. Though we now know that Senor Chang isn’t qualified to be a Spanish professor anyplace but Sesame Street, Ken Jeong will be back. Even before his character was exposed as a fraud, “I was worried,” he admits, “because I knew they couldn’t take Spanish forever at community college.” But now the teacher will become a student. And “I think he will definitely try to hang with Winger a lot more,” Jeong suggests. “He’ll relate to him, because [the former lawyer] is also at Greendale because he got caught without the credentials for his job.” READ FULL STORY »

My Dream Emmy Nominations part 2: Best Supporting Actor and Actress (drama)

dream-emmyImage Credit: Justin Stephens/Fox; Bob D'Amico/ABC; Eike Schroter/CBS; NBC; Jaimie Trueblood/HBOTraditionally the toughest categories to narrow down due to the sheer number of potential nominees, this year’s supporting actor and actress in a drama races were made easier for a couple of reasons: Big Love‘s big letdown of a season opened up a bunch of slots, as did the absence of In Treatment. Also, several standout performers (Lily Tomlin for Damages, Walton Goggins for Justified, John Lithgow for Dexter) decided to enter the guest race instead. Having said that, I was still faced with some agonizing dilemmas as I narrowed the field down to a top 12. Emmy voters, you know the drill. Copy and paste my picks when ballots arrive next week. And check back tomorrow for my lead actor/actress picks. READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive first look inside the 'Friday Night Lights' Emmy campaign

friday-night-lightsImage Credit: Mitchell Haaseth/NBCIs this the year Emmy finally shows Friday Night Lights some freakin’ love? It better be. Season 4 — paced by the gut-wrenching, and flawlessly acted, episode “The Son” — was a creative triumph. The show’s producing partners, Universal Media Studios and DirecTV, are attempting to drive home this message to a seemingly immovable voting body with an Emmy campaign that is ambitious, creative, and, dare I say, moving. But don’t take my word for it. One piece of the multipronged effort — a fan-inspired video — is embedded below for your viewing pleasure. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose! READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive: NBC unveils Emmy submissions!

emmy-storyImage Credit: Byron Cohen/NBC; Chris Haston/NBC; Larry Watson/FoxEvery year prior to Emmy nominations, the suits at the major TV studios stuff voters’ mailboxes with tons of DVDs featuring what they feel are their shows’ best episodes of the season. I just got a hold of Universal Media Studios’ fancy Emmy kit, and here are the episodes they chose to single out from this season’s Office, 30 Rock, Parenthood, etc. Note: These may differ from the formal submissions that are used in determining the winners. Also, keep in mind that Emmy-worthy episodes that aired after the mailer deadline could not be included, which is presumably why SNL didn’t include the Betty White episode.

Question: All this vague “a crisis like no other” talk about the Grey’s Anatomy finale is killing me. And you don’t wanna be responsible for my death. Seattle Grace scoop, STAT. —Andy
Ausiello:
Would it qualify as putting you on life support if I got series creator Shonda Rhimes to tell you a bit about the two-hour season-ender? Let’s find out. “The theme of the first hour is sanctuary, which sort of uses the idea that the hospital is our characters’ safest place and our safest place as viewers,” she says. “[Then we use] the hour to slowly turn that on its head [so] that by the end, the hospital is definitely kind of the least safe place in the world.” Yikes! “The second hour,” she continues, “is about choices, and we get to watch our characters make big ones. Lexie chooses between Mark and Alex. Owen chooses between Teddy and Cristina. Bailey faces the hardest medical choice that a doctor has to make. And the other choice that’s being made is Callie and Arizona, and whether or not they’re going to be together or not. It IS going to come down to the baby thing.” You still with us, Andy? Hello? Bueller? Someone call 911! READ FULL STORY »
