Football is king in Texas, and Esquire Network’s original 10-part docuseries Friday Night Tykes gives viewers an inside look at the world of youth football in the San Antonio region. The show follows five teams from the Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA) on and off the field throughout the 2013 season. It’s basically Friday Night Lights with 8 and 9 year olds.

TLC made its mark with Toddlers & Tiaras, drumming up controversy about parents living vicariously through their children. And Friday Night Tykes will likely have a similar effect. The show will tackle serious questions like: How much competition is too much? Is the sport safe for young children? And at what price are we pushing our kids to win?
