In our fall TV preview, we broke down each day into what to watch live and what to DVR. Here’s your Fall Thursday night game plan:

8 p.m.
Watch: The Vampire Diaries (The CW): When we return to Mystic Falls for season 6, it’s going to be nothing like the Mystic falls we’re used to, with both Damon and Bonnie long gone and vampires banned from town. Premieres Oct. 2.

DVR: Grey’s Anatomy (ABC): Season 11 kicks off with what’s bound to be a lot of drama, as Meredith and Derek are debating a move to D.C., Callie and Arizona have a 50/50 chance of staying together, and there’s a new head of cardio who just happens to be Mer’s sister and the daughter Ellis Grey gave up for adoption.

9 p.m.
Watch: Scandal (ABC): Where in God’s name is Olivia Pope? That’s the question on everyone’s mind heading into tonight’s season 4 premiere, which picks up after the fixer fled D.C. for what seems to be a tropical locale with no shortage of wine.

DVR: Gracepoint (Fox): The 10-episode series follows a detective duo (Anna Gunn and David Tennant) and their investigation into the murder of a young boy in a small town. Premieres Oct. 2.

10 p.m.
Watch: How to Get Away With Murder (ABC): The series premiere of Shonda Rhimes’ latest offering, which stars Viola Davis as criminal defense professor Annalise Keating who teaches a class called, you guessed it, “How to Get Away With Murder.”
DVR:
Parenthood (NBC): We know there’s a “big event” in store for the Bravermans in the season 6 premiere — one that will probably make you shed a tear or two.

'Grey's Anatomy': Where we left off and what's next

Grey’s Anatomy will take family drama to a new level this season.

Meredith and Derek are in the midst of making the life-changing decision of moving to Washington, D.C., Callie and Arizona are looking at a future in which they have more children, and April and Jackson are about to welcome their first child. Which all pales in comparison to the fact that the new head of cardio is actually the daughter Ellis Grey gave up for adoption unbeknownst to Richard, making her Mer’s half-sister. Suffice it to say, there’s a lot of drama coming in season 11.

With that in mind, EW thought you may need a refresher on where we left off with the docs of Grey Sloan Memorial and a tease on what’s coming next:

'Grey's Anatomy' boss: Callie and Arizona have a '50/50 chance' of staying together

It may be the year of Meredith, but she isn’t the only Grey Sloan doc with a tough season ahead of them on Grey’s Anatomy.

For several seasons now, Callie and Arizona’s relationship has been on a rough roller coaster—and we’re not just talking about the latter’s infidelity. The couple separated in season 7 when Arizona left for Africa, during which time Callie got knocked up by Sloan. Then, of course, there was Callie’s car accident, and Arizona losing her leg as a result of the plane crash, culminating in the formerly bubbly peds doc cheating on her wife. They did eventually get back together, move into a new home and decide to have a child via surrogacy, but those are just another series of Band-Aids that the duo have been placing on their damaged relationship. Can they really survive? Or will this new journey finally be the breaking point?

Watch the 'Grey's Anatomy' cast dance it out in the season 10 gag reel

Grey’s Anatomy fans might not believe it, but Sandra Oh’s last season on set wasn’t overflowing with “remember when” stories and goodbyes. In fact, things at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital were the same as they’ve always been: Full of drama onscreen, and full of laughter (and strange noises) offscreen.

Before season 10′s DVD release Sept. 2, we’ve got an exclusive first look at its gag reel—in which Oh may or may not fire someone. (Spoiler: She’s kidding.) READ FULL STORY

Can you tease how Amelia will fit in on Grey’s Anatomy next season? — Carla
How she’ll fit into Grey Sloan will all depend on whether or not Derek takes the D.C. job, which causes some “frustrating complications,” executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells me. But Amelia will make a surprising connection at the hospital, just not with who you’d think. “There’s a moment early on when she finds herself the keeper of some secrets that Richard didn’t necessarily want her to know by being at an AA meeting that he didn’t know she was at,” Rhimes says. “It draws her into the world in a deeper way than she anticipated.” Hmm, I wonder what that secret could be.

See how ABC is promoting Shonda Rhimes' Thursday takeover

As if the one-two punch of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal on one night wasn’t enough, this fall Shondaland will air three shows on Thursdays—otherwise known as “TGIT.”

It’s a nice nod to the network’s old Friday night TGIF block and even NBC’s former Thursday night domination with Must-See TV.

Meredith can't move to Washington, D.C. on 'Grey's Anatomy' because...

Now that most of the Fab Five have left Grey Sloan Memorial, it seems the time could be ripe for Meredith to finally move on from the hospital she’s called home for the last 10 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy—despite telling Derek she didn’t want to move to Washington, D.C. in the season finale. However, Ellen Pompeo thinks there’s a very plausible reason why Meredith cannot follow her husband to Capitol Hill.
