Best of 2014: Inside Hallmark's holiday TV movie factory

Considering Hallmark Channel’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming begins on Halloween, it should come as no surprise that Christmas is on the mind of Michelle Vicary, executive vice president of programming and network publicity for Hallmark and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, all year round. “We right now are in development and some stages of pre-production and finalizing scripts for 2015,” she says. “We like to get real snow as often as we can, but yes, there will be some movies that’ll be shot in the summer and people will be shivering in 80 degree weather with the fake snow.”

This year’s 12 original holiday movies have reached 56 million unduplicated viewers and made Hallmark the most-watched cable network among households and women 25-54 for seven weekends. Here’s a peek behind the curtain.

'Facts of Life' stars Lisa Whelchel, Kim Fields reunite in Hallmark Movie

It’s a Facts of Life reunion! Stars of the 1980s boarding school comedy, Lisa Whelchel (Blair Warner) and Kim Fields (Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey), will be together on the small screen once again for the Hallmark original movie For Better or For Worse, premiering in fall 2014.

For Better or For Worse, an adaption of the best-selling novel by the same name written by Diann Hunt, is a romantic comedy about a woman who learns about second chances in love.

Whelchel stars as Wendy, who is finally starting to settle into her life after the death of her husband by taking over the family business, and Fields plays her friend and co-worker Roseanne.

Hallmark Channel picks up 'The Good Witch' TV series

If there’s one trend that can’t be stopped, it’s witches. And now, one very beloved witch is taking over the Hallmark Channel… again.

After the success of The Good Witch movies, Hallmark Channel has made a deal with ITV Studios America for an original scripted TV series by the same name. The series will star Catherine Bell, who will make her return as Cassie Nightingale, and will run for 10 episodes. If that’s not enough magic for you, fans also have the seventh film to look forward to, The Good Witch’s Wonder, which will premiere on Hallmark Channel October 25.

The Good Witch television series is expected to premiere in 2015.
