‘THE MENTALIST’: RED JOHN MYSTERY WILL ‘RAMP UP’

The Red John story line has taken so many twists and turns since last season’s epic finale that that story line has largely taken a backseat to other fun capers. But that won’t be the case all season. In fact, Daniel Cerone, executive producer and writer of next week’s “Fugue in Red,” tells me this week’s episode, which will find Jane reverting to his con-man ways after an accident, will “reframe who Red John is in the life of our character” and ultimately set the stage for a second half of the season that will see more action from this fan-favorite story line. Happy Thanksgiving, Roomies!

As I’ll likely be in a Turkey coma on Friday, here’s something to be thankful for a little early… Spoiler Room: Special Wednesday/Pre-Holiday/Yay For a Long Weekend Edition! Yup, just a few scoops to take you into your hopefully lovely holiday.

‘HIMYM’: ABOUT THE NEXT EPISODE…
The logline for next week’s How I Met Your Mother is incredibly teasey. Observe: When “Robin receives bad news, she decides to lie about it to the gang. Meanwhile, Marshall hangs Christmas decorations on the house in the ‘burbs with help from his neighbor.” But still unsatisfied, I hopped on the phone yesterday with HIMYM executive producer Carter Bays, who talked about the next episode. (To read part of our chat, click here.)

What I left out about the Dec. 5 episode, however, is something that truly sent chills of anticipation down my spine: While Bays said he believes it’s “one of the best episodes we’ve ever done,” he also expressed a little apprehension, saying he hopes viewers will see it the same way. “You know, honestly, I hope people stay on board after the next episode,” he tells me. “I think there’s some incredible acting in it, and it’s a really nicely told story that we’re very pleased with. But… this Barney and Robin stuff is a third rail for our show in a good way. It’s nice to get a little jolt every now and then, but it is so divisive among fans from what I’ve gathered. So hopefully people will enjoy the story for what it is. But yeah, we’re nervous about where the story goes. Excited, and very proud of it, but I hope people stay on board. 'How I Met Your Mother' boss on Robin's bombshell: 'There are more revelations in store'

Fun fact: Executive producer Carter Bays and the How I Met Your Mother team almost considered making last night’s episode of the show and the next new installment (airing Dec. 5) a two-parter episode. That would not have been an unnatural choice, considering the ending left off with Robin revealing to Barney (and the viewers!) that she was pregnant. But if viewers had seen both parts to this story, it would have, as Bays tells EW, been so much easier to talk about.

“I would say the wheels of fate are not done turning for these characters, and it’s definitely a big surprise, but there’s more to come,” Bays teases. “This little story isn’t over yet. I almost feel weird commenting on anything just yet because there are more revelations in store.” For one, says Bays, the question of the baby’s paternity will be “settled pretty quickly,” but there will also be developments that give way to “a bigger story.” READ FULL STORY »

'Terra Nova' ratings drop on Halloween night

Fox’s Terra Nova ratings got spooked on Halloween night, falling more than any other broadcast show after spending a week off the air due to baseball coverage.

Terra Nova returned to 6.4 million viewers and a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 25 percent compared to its last original airing. (Bummer — some say it was the show’s best episode, recap here.) Given that Terra Nova airs at 8 p.m. and is targeted toward families, it was probably the most likely series to take a punch.

'How I Met Your Mother': Ted's awkward cuddle time with the Slutty Pumpkin (Katie Holmes!) -- VIDEO

Having been the victim of awkward cuddle time on several occasions, I couldn’t help but lose it during this clip of Ted and the Slutty Pumpkin (guest star Katie Holmes).

In these clips from the episode airing Oct. 31, we learn that not only does Naomi (Madam Pumpkin’s real name) totally remember Ted from all those years ago, but she thinks they’re meant to be! Too bad the feeling is not reciprocated. In fact, he’s not feeling it at all!

On an unrelated note, is Robin trying to convince Barney he’s Canadian? The horror!*

Don’t call it a love triangle just yet.

The final moments of Monday’s How I Met Your Mother could have been interpreted many ways. As Victoria boarded a bus out of Ted’s life, she left him with parting words, “There is a reason it didn’t work out between you and me. It’s Robin. She’s so much bigger in your world than you realize.”

'HIMYM' producers to create sitcom for Fox

After a fierce bidding war, Fox nabbed the next comedy from the How I Met Your Mother producers — a single camera laugher about three siblings who reconnect after their dad dies.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with Chris Harris, will exec produce a put pilot called The Goodwin Games for fall 2012 consideration. A put pilot comes with severe financial penalties if Fox doesn’t air it, which all but assures its pickup for next season.

And yes, Fox still has many shows yet to debut this season (tonight’s Terra Nova, for one!) but it, like the other broadcast nets, are already focused on next fall’s lineup.
