Jeff Probst was cagey when he announced the title of the next season of Survivor as Blood vs. Water and showed a clip of blood mixing with water that looked vaguely like a promo for Showtime’s Dexter. But he is cagey no longer! When I traveled on location last week for filming of the upcoming season and spoke to Probst for an interview that ran today on Entertainment Weekly’s new SiriusXM channel 105, I was shocked to hear him go ahead and reveal the big twist for all to hear. “I think it’s okay to say that it is going to be family members,” said Probst of the next season’s cast. “And they’ll end up playing against each other.” Whose family members? you may ask. Well, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler tells EW that Survivor: Blood vs. Water will indeed feature “the return of great characters and their relatives.” So there you have it: The cast will be a mix of returning players and their loved ones. Which returning players? Well, Probst isn’t quite ready to spill on that, but you can hear him talk about the new season and twist right here on the InsideTV Podcast replay of that EW Radio chat. You better not cross Marilu Henner. Because that woman remembers EVERYTHING! No, seriously, she does. The former Taxi star possesses some sort of super memory power worthy of X-Men mutant status. So we put her special powers to the test when she dropped by the InsideTV Podcast studio to tell us about her All-Star Celebrity Apprentice experience.
Why was Marilu assaulting people at Universal Studios by yelling out what day of the week they were born on? What’s this about Celebrity Apprentice pimp daddy Farouk Shami trying to fly her down to Houston? What are some things we didn’t see because they never made it onto the show? And most importantly, if Marilu has some sort of superhuman memory, why does she not remember meeting me?!? It’s a fun, freewheeling conversation that also somehow manages to include Tony Danza and a orangutan. To listen in, just click on the audio player below.
But that’s not all. First up, blindsided Brenda Lowe calls in to talk about the “painful eye-opener” of being voted out by her friend Dawn on the last episode of Survivor: Caramoan. Turns out she has refused to communicate with the woman who blindsided her since they returned from the game last June. What will happen when they share the stage at tonight’s reunion? Brenda tells us how she plans to approach the awkward situation. Looking for the perfect way to pre-game for tonight’s finale? Then have a listen! READ FULL STORY
InsideTV Podcast: Brenda Lowe from 'Survivor' on that 'painful eye-opener' and why she hasn't spoken to Dawn since
Considering we barely saw or heard from Brenda Lowe in the first half of the Survivor: Caramoan season, we never expected her to be a part of one of the most gut-wrenching blindsides in recent memory. But there she was getting voted out by the person whose teeth she found. The same person whom she initially invited to join her for the loved ones reward. And the same person she had been offering round-the-clock friendship and support for during many an emotional breakdown. And that person was Dawn.
On the latest InsideTV Podcast, Brenda calls in to talk about the “painful eye-opener” of being voted out by the person she counted on the most. (Unbeknownest to her, Dawn actually had a stronger alliance with Cochran.) “It really hurt,” says Brenda, who goes on to reveal that while Dawn has attempted to reach out to her since the show wrapped last June, she has not responded to the woman that voted her out. What will happen when they share a stage at Sunday’s reunion then? Listen in and find out! Brenda also goes on to talk about what it was like to make Jeff Probst cry, why she never considered throwing the loved ones challenge, and the thing that surprised her the most watching the episodes back on TV. It’s a must-listen for any Survivor fan.
Then we talk to another ousted reality show beauty: Marilu Henner! Marilu was fired on the last All-Star Celebrity Apprentice after her Foxwoods party suite fell flat thanks to an overemphasis on chess (among other things.) Now, Marilu comes in to spill secrets on everything that goes on both inside and outside of the Boardroom. Plus: Is the game rigged against women? I pose that question to the former Taxi star and you may be surprised by her answer. READ FULL STORY
One is the gatekeeper to the Boardroom. The other is the man responsible for herding all of the fired losers off the floor as quickly as possible. Together they make up the most dynamic of Celebrity Apprentice duos! Receptionist Amanda Miller and elevator attendant Adrian Acosta stopped by Entertainment Weekly’s SiriusXM studio for their first ever joint interview, and now you can hear it all on the latest edition of the InsideTV Podcast.
Why does Amanda have multiple pairs of golden scissors on her desk…and no computer? Does Adrian’s elevator actually go anywhere? What’s the name of the doorman who escorts the fired celebrities to their cars? And which contestants have attempted to hit on the receptionist and elevator operator over the years? We grill the pair and get all the behind the scenes Celebrity Apprentice scoop you know you secretly crave. Our last podcast with Amanda was one of our most successful ever, and you can expect more tomfoolery this time around as well.
But first, we chat with the two most recent players to be voted off of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites: Reynold Toepfer and Andrea Boehlke. Why did Reynold decide to sport that sweet porn stache? Is Andrea bitter at those who blindsided her (like Cochran and Dawn) and has she mended fences with the people she blindsided (like Francesca)? And what surprised them the most when they watched the episodes play back on TV? It’s a joint interview no Survivor fan will want to miss. READ FULL STORY
InsideTV Podcast: Andrea and Reynold from 'Survivor' talk mustaches, blindsides, and backstabbing former friends
They started the season of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites in very different places. On the Fans tribe, Reynold Toepfer found himself on the outs pretty much immediately after trying to form a young hotties alliance that simply didn’t have the numbers. Over on the Favorites beach, however, Andrea Boehlke, made an immediate power play against her former fellow Redemption Island cast member and New York City pal Francesca Hogi, sending her former friend home and putting herself in the middle of the dominant alliance.
But both Reynold and Andrea ended up in the same place and on the same episode — the jury. Both were voted out on Wednesday’s double elimination episode of Survivor, and both called in together to a preview edition of Entertainment Weekly’s new SiriusXM radio show EW Morning Live, hosted by yours truly and Survivor: Amazon champ Jenna Morasca. (The full EW Radio channel launches on SiriusXM after Memorial Day.) Now, you too can hear that conversation as part of this week’s InsideTV Podcast.
We asked Andrea all about backstabbing Francesca and the online war of words that followed. We talked to Reynold about handing his immunity idol over to Malcolm. We spoke about being blindsided (Andrea) and blinding people through the power of mustache (Reynold). And you can hear it all by clicking on the audio player icon below.
But that’s not the only dynamic reality duo we have on tap this week! America’s favorite fake receptionist and elevator operator Amanda Miller and Adrian Acosta from All-Star Celebrity Apprentice stopped by our SiriusXM studio to share all the secrets from outside the Boardroom! Why does Amanda have approximately 3,271 pairs of scissors on her desk? Does Adrian’s elevator actually go anywhere? And what do they have to say about the celebs that have populated their reception area and elevator? Amanda and Adrian reveal all! READ FULL STORY
InsideTV Podcast: Malcolm from 'Survivor' talks about his big double idol move and why he keeps getting played by older women
Malcolm Freberg loves the game of Survivor. And he loves it when people make big moves. So it was no surprise when he said that if he was gonna go out, he wanted to go out big. And he certainly did — using two hidden immunity idols last week (one for himself and one for Eddie). But was that a smart move? That question comes into clearer focus after the fan favorite was voted off on last night’s episode of Survivor: Caramoan. Now, Malcolm calls into the InsideTV Podcast to tell Jessica Shaw and me if he regrets not saving an idol for a rainy day. Malcolm reveals that they weren’t actually planning on playing both idols at all, instead using them as a bluff, until Erik called them on that very fact, thereby forcing their hand.
Malcolm also talks about how he keeps trusting older women (Lisa Whelchel, Dawn, Sherri) that seem to get the better of him, why he spent $20 on a beer, trying to find that last idol with Andrea hanging all over him (we give him one strategy he should have tried), his biggest regret, being reunited with Phillip at Ponderosa, and what he’ll be looking for when he casts his vote at the final Tribal Council. It’s a must-listen chat with the lead Amigo. And believe or not, he is neither drunk nor hungover when he calls!
But that’s not all. Our resident Game of Thrones expert James Hibberd then calls in to break down one of the biggest moments in the history of the HBO drama. James has talked to the show’s producers as well as actress Emilia Clarke and shares all the behind-the-scenes intel on last week’s big scene of Daenerys unleashing her dragon. He also sheds some light on what is going on with Theon Greyjoy’s mysterious captor as well as the machinations of creepy Varys, and what exactly is brewing between one-handed Jaime Lannister and former foe Brienne. If you’re a fan of the show, you won’t want to miss what James has to say.
And finally, Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre, stopped by the studio to give his thoughts on the heartbreaking series finale of the Starz drama and the fact that Spartacus did not somehow make it out of the show alive. McIntyre also discusses “openly weeping” while watching the finale with the man who plays on-screen enemy Caesar, Todd Lasance, and how showrunner Steven S. DeKnight handled the brutal on-the-cross death of fan favorite Gannicus. It’s an entertaining and revealing chat sure to be enjoyed by all. READ FULL STORY
InsideTV Podcast: Where's Jaime Lannister? We break down when all the missing 'Game of Thrones' faves will be returning
Game Of Thrones returned last Sunday with a premiere that put several storylines in motion for season 3. But with approximately 3,275 main characters, the show couldn’t manage to squeak everybody in. Where was Jaime Lannister (whom we haven’t seen a whole lot of in general since season 1)? What about poor Arya and Bran Stark? And what of that dirty traitor Theon Greyjoy?
When we have questions, we go to the man with all the answers — our resident Game of Thrones expert James Hibberd. James calls in to the newest edition of the InsideTV Podcast to chat all things Westeros. What did James think about the premiere? Which storyline is he loving and loathing the most? And what sort of teases can he give us going forward, including expected arrival times for the aforementioned characters? It’s an epic orgy of geekdom as James tells us everything we need to prep us for the rest of season 3. To listen in, just click on the video player below.
But that’s not all. Jessica Shaw joins me to break down the latest — and greatest — episode of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans Vs. Favorites. We then take a call from the person just booted off the show, Corinne Kaplan. Will Corinne hold back when it comes to her thoughts on island rival Phillip Sheppard? Of course not! It’s Corinne! “I don’t have anything nice to say about him,” Corinne says before launching into plenty of not nice things, like comparing The Specialist to a handicapped child and referring to him as “The Living Miscarriage.” She also shares her bitter disappointment at making it to the merge but not the jury. “That’s when my whole world fell apart,” says Corinne. It’s a must-listen chat for any Survivor fan. (The Survivor discussion and interview begins at 21:30.) READ FULL STORY
InsideTV Podcast: Corinne from 'Survivor' compares Phillip to a handicapped child and calls him 'the living miscarriage'
We all knew Survivor: Caramoan’s Corinne Kaplan was not exactly what you would call a big Phillip Sheppard fan. And it is foolish at this point to be shocked or surprised by anything that comes out of Corinne’s mouth. Well, call us fools because Jessica Shaw and I were not prepared for the verbal onslaught Corinne unleashed on the newest edition of the InsideTV Podcast. “I don’t have anything nice to say about him,” Corinne began when asked about her island tormentor. But the woman who was voted out on last night’s episode had plenty of not nice things to say, including comparing The Specialist to a handicapped child and referring to him as “The Living Miscarriage.”
But Corinne does not stop there. Nor does she pull punches when discussing where and why it all went wrong for her in the game, revealing that she only told Dawn about the plan to move against Phillip because Dawn was having repeated “mental breakdowns” and needed comforting. She also shares her bitter disappointment at making it to the merge but not the jury. “That’s when my whole world fell apart,” says Corinne. It’s a must-listen chat for any Survivor fan. (The Survivor discussion and interview begins at 21:30.)
But first, our resident Game of Thrones expert James Hibberd calls in to talk all things Westeros. He offers up exclusive intel on what to expect going forward while also breaking down the season 3 premiere and offering his opinion on which storylines are working best and worst. Curious when Jaime Lannister and some of the Stark children are going to be showing up? James will let you know! READ FULL STORY
InsideTV Podcast: Who is most likely to die on Sunday's 'Walking Dead' finale? Plus: We talk 'Spartacus' and 'Survivor'
Lori. T-Dog. Oscar. Axel. Merle. Lots of other people like Ben that we didn’t really care about. All of them bit the dust during season 3 of The Walking Dead. But there is one episode left, and with a big battle looming between Rick and The Governor, it seems a pretty safe bet that not everyone will be safe when all is said and done. On the latest edition of the InsideTV Podcast, Darren Franich and I place odds on who might die on Sunday’s season finale. Will it be a member of the Greene family (specifically Hershel or Beth)? How about Andrea? Or —horror of all horrors — could it be little Judith Grimes? We talk about who is most likely to go…besides Martinez, of course, who we already have pegged as a goner. Sorry, dude.
The other big question surrounding the finale is whether the Governor will make it out alive. We offer our theories on what will happen to the eye-patch wearing baddie, and also offer up odds on who might be the one to kill him if he does, in fact, die. (Keep your eyes on Milton and Tyrese, people!) Listen in and see if you agree with our theories by clicking on the audio player icon below. READ FULL STORY
No All-Stars here! It’s a brand new cast of pseudo celebrities hoofing it on the new season of Dancing with the Stars. Now that we’ve had a chance to see them strut their stuff, it’s time for predictions! DWTS expert — please don’t put that on her tombstone — Annie Barrett joins Jessica Shaw and me on the latest edition of the InsideTV Podcast to break down the good, the bad, and the ugly from week 1. We also look to the future to predict which couple will win the whole thing (will it be Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, above?) as well as which pair will be on the receiving end of the unceremonious first boot off the show. And it’s all liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive (to tape). (The Dancing with the Stars chat starts at 14:00.)
But first, we “check in” on A&E’s new Bates Motel. Why is it a Psycho prequel yet set in modern day? How great are Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore as Norma and Norman Bates? And which aspects of the show are working and which aren’t? The one and only Clark Collis stumbles into the studio to break it all down.
Finally, Survivor: Caramoan castoff Matt Bischoff calls in to talk about what went wrong out there on the island. What was his long term plan had he not been voted out? Would he have stuck with Michael? Is he now on Shamar’s no-talking list? And did he ever get his Stealth “R” Us t-shirt. (The Survivor discussion starts at 31:30 and interview commences at 41:25.) READ FULL STORY
Fear the beard! Or don’t.
Matt Bischoff of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites thought he was sitting in a pretty sweet spot on his Fans tribe at Gota. But think again! Because after Jeff Probst reshuffled the tribes, he found himself down in numbers on a clearly weaker Bikal. That’s a bad combination and it meant bad news for Matt, who was voted out by the Favorites alliance. So what does he do now? He calls in to the InsideTV Podcast of course! Matt plays a nifty game of “What If?” and tells us his strategic plan had the tribes not been reshuffled. Plus, he shares his thoughts on The Specialist, Shamar, and whether he had plans to turn on alliance partner Michael had he lasted longer in the game. It’s a fun and enlightening conversation that reinforces what a cool and down to earth guy Matt really is, and all you need to do is click on the audio player below to hear it for yourself. (The Survivor discussion starts at 31:30 and interview commences at 41:25.)
But first we “check in” with Clark Collis about Bates Motel, the newest drama from former Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse. How does the Psycho prequel stack up? Was it a mistake to set the show in modern times as opposed to the timeline-appropriate late ‘40/early ‘50s? And should we just hand the Emmys to Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga right now? We deep dive into the eerie drama.
Then, Annie Barrett puts her dancing shoes on to break down the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars. Who is the couple to beat? Which couple will go home first? Will the show rebound after its poorly-viewed All-Stars season? And can Annie possibly carry on without Maks! All will be revealed! (The DWTS chat starts at 14:00.) READ FULL STORY
