CNN's Jake Tapper gets soapy on 'All My Children' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

How, exactly, did CNN’s chief Washington correspondent end up with a part on All My Children‘s online reboot? Let the man himself explain:

“For months, we at The Lead have been covering the different ways content is provided in the modern world — from interviewing Garry Trudeau about his sitcom airing on to covering the rise of Netflix,” Tapper says. “We were interested when we heard that two soaps that ABC had canceled were finding new lives online — so I went up to Connecticut to report on that. My cameo came as a fun way to immerse myself in the soap experience. (I confess I had to be talked into it by my staff.)”

Tapper’s cameo won’t air until Monday, Aug. 12 — but you can get a sneak peek of it in the exclusive clip below. The seamless exposition! The way he gestures to that cameraman! Clearly, Tapper oughta be in pictures.

Jake Tapper to guest on 'All My Children'

CNN anchor and prolific tweeter Jake Tapper is ready for his close-up.

In 10 days, the newsman will make his acting debut on the revived online-only version of All My Children, which airs both on Hulu’s “The Online Network” imprint and Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.

Naturally, he’ll be playing a reporter — specifically, one named Spencer Phillips who works for the generic-sounding Business News Update. (Then again, AMC‘s hometown is called Pine Valley…)

Apparently, Tapper’s casting wasn’t premeditated — as The Wrap writes, the Washington correspondent was “discovered” by AMC‘s producers while filming a segment for The Lead about the soap’s revival. Only in (Internet) Hollywood!
