The Romneys are visiting Kelly and Michael. Producers of Live! with Kelly and Michael say Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and wife Ann will appear on the daytime talk show Tuesday.

The show announced Thursday that the Romneys will stop by the show’s New York studio to chat with Kelly Ripa and her new co-host, Michael Strahan, about life on the campaign trail.

It will be the Romneys’ first appearance on a daytime talk show during the 2012 campaign.

Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts was supposed to begin a medical leave of absence after Friday’s show. But in a surprise move, the ailing newswoman announced on air this morning that today would, in fact, be her last day on GMA “for a while.”

“Some things happened at home,” Roberts said, explaining that her 88-year-old mother is also in poor health. Roberts and her sister, Sally-Ann, are both heading to Mississippi to care for her and be with other family members affected by Hurricane Isaac. Once home, Roberts will also begin preparing for a bone marrow transplant to treat her myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS.

Though her farewell was emotional, Roberts presented a brave face: “‘Life provides losses and heartbreak for all of us. But the greatest tragedy is to have the experience and miss the meaning,’” she said, reciting an inspirational quote. “I am determined not to miss that meaning.” READ FULL STORY »

Michael Strahan to be named new 'Live! with Kelly' co-host

Former NFL player Michael Strahan will be Kelly Ripa’s new co-host on Live! with Kelly, sources confirm to EW.

His hiring comes after a several months-long search for a new co-host to replace Regis Philbin, who left the show in November.

ABC had no comment.

Back in July, it was rumored that the field was down to three hosts — Strahan, SNL‘s Seth Meyers, and singer Josh Groban. In an EW poll, almost 50 percent of readers said Meyers was their top pick. Strahan came in second with 31 percent of the votes.

Yesterday, the show announced its new season would start Sept. 3 and feature Ripa hosting the show solo for the very first time. Her debut with a new co-host is set for Sept. 4, with guests Claire Danes and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips.
