Bill Paxton to narrate 'JFK: The Final Hours' documentary -- EXCLUSIVE

Leading up to the Nov. 10 premiere of its original movie Killing Kennedy starring Rob Lowe as JFK, the National Geographic Channel will debut a two-hour documentary titled JFK: The Final Hours narrated by Bill Paxton on Nov. 8. It features first-hand accounts from people who were among the last to interact with the president on the day of his assassination 50 years ago. Why is Paxton a fitting choice for narrator? He was actually among the crowd gathered in the parking lot of Fort Worth’s Hotel Texas, where Kennedy gave one of his last public speeches just hours before his death on Nov. 22, 1963. Paxton’s the child sitting on someone’s shoulders in the photo above. “I was eight years old that day, and I remember thinking it was like seeing a movie star,” Paxton says in the announcement. “There stood a man at the peak of his life and his career, but little did he or any of us know that in three hours he would be murdered in cold blood.”

Based on the best-selling book by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard, Nat Geo’s Killing Kennedy follows John F. Kennedy (Rob Lowe) and his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar), in the final years of both their lives. And now, the first trailer for the TV movie shows Lowe behind the podium as Kennedy, delivering a speech about the “very dangerous and uncertain world” in which he lived.

The trailer also gives us glimpses of Ginnifer Goodwin as first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald. And, of course, a first glimpse at the bullet shell that nobody saw coming.

Rob Lowe on playing JFK: Presidents since are 'bad actors'

“Every president today talks like him,” Rob Lowe says. “They’re all like bad actors who do variations on that performance. … If we were in a corner I could do every [modern] president’s version of imitating President Kennedy.”

Lowe is on stage at the Beverly Hilton where he’s on a Television Critics Association press tour panel promoting Nat Geo’s Killing Kennedy, the movie version of Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s bestseller chronicling the final years of the president and his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar). The film’s debut later this year will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s death.

Though Lowe wasn’t yet born when Kennedy was killed, he says he has a longtime fascination with the man and his death. “I’ve been following the Kennedy assassination since I was in the first or second grade,” he says. “I’ve read every conspiracy assassination book… I’ve come around to thinking [the Warren Commission] got it right — that Oswald acted alone.”
