'L.A. Complex' repeat draws more viewers than its premiere

The strange ratings odyssey of The CW’s Canadian import The L.A. Complex continued Wednesday night. The network’s repeat airing of the show’s premiere (which was, you’ll recall, the Lowest Rated Broadcast Drama Series Debut of All Time) delivered 721,000 viewers and a 0.3 adult demo rating. That’s slightly more viewers than its Tuesday premiere and tying its debut in the demo.

So, yes, The L.A. Complex premiere audience was so small — “How small was it?” — that it was topped by a repeat of itself. Can’t help but wonder if the dramatic Complex headlines yesterday might have actually helped the show, which many EW.com readers say they didn’t realize was on until seeing our ratings story. The CW’s new midseason effort, the imported sexy soap The L.A. Complex, set a new benchmark Tuesday night: According to network research analysts, The L.A. Complex is the lowest-rated in-season broadcast drama debut on record (tracking back to the start of the current ratings measurement system).

Despite relatively upbeat reviews, Complex opened to only 646,000 viewers and a 0.3 rating in the adult demo. By comparison, Ringer averaged 40 percent higher in the 9 p.m. slot. Yes, L.A. Complex numbers actually made Ringer look good. Complex also shed half its 90210 (1.2 million, 0.6) lead in.
