A&E original series season premieres get ratings boost

After a successful first-season run for Bates Motel, the network it calls home experienced a bump in series ratings for the season premieres of two of its other original programs — Longmire and The Glades.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the pair of A&E original dramas debuted to larger audiences than their previous seasons.

Longmire showed a five-percent increase in viewership over last year in its sophomore year debut, with a total of 4.3 million viewers. The show, based on a book series, chronicles the life of Sheriff Walt Longmire as he solves crimes and deals with his personal life after the death of his wife.

The Glades kicked of its fourth season with 3.3 million viewers, six-percent higher than last summer’s premiere. Featuring a police detective who flees false accusations in his Chicago department, the show is set in South Florida where victims are killed by poisonous snakes and hurricanes.

Katee Sackhoff on 'Longmire' and getting rid of her 'Chronicles of Riddick' muscle for the new show

Katee Sackhoff, best known as hotshot pilot Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in Battlestar Galactica, has traded the final frontier for the plains and mountains of rural Wyoming. In A&E’s new TV series Longmire, Sackhoff delves into the Western genre as deputy Victoria “Vic” Moretti.

Adapted from a book series by Craig Johnson, Longmire centers on Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), sheriff in the fictional Absaroka County. Vic is the new girl in town, adjusting to a transition from her detective job in Philadelphia.

We caught up with Sackhoff a couple days before Sunday’s premiere of Longmire (at 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT) to chat about filming in New Mexico, what fans can expect from her turn in the upcoming Chronicles of Riddick sequel, and the similarities between her new modern Western and the sci-fi show that garnered her a devoted fanbase.  READ FULL STORY
