'The Americans' will be watching you in season 3 trailer

“Every Breath You Take” remains one of the creepiest pop songs, which makes it the perfect score for this unnerving trailer for The Americans‘ upcoming third season. READ FULL STORY

Here's why Philip Jennings is the best character on 'The Americans'

For fans of The Americans, it’s tough to pick between the Jennings parents. Both Philip and Elizabeth are so essential, so scary, so Russian. Yet we must choose only one to be the show’s best character, because, well, who doesn’t love a good game of spy-vs.-spy? And as great as both are, I’d say Matthew Rhys’ Philip has the edge over Keri Russell’s Elizabeth. Even if just by a (wig) hair.

Like his wife, Philip contains murderous multitudes: He’s a walking, running, snarling one-man show with own dense cast of characters. There’s Clark Westerfeld, the square C.I.A. bureaucrat who sometimes treats his wife—yes, a second wife—to wildly passionate romps in the hay. There’s Scott Birkeland, a Swedish intelligence officer who also plays the long con with women (all in the name of intel, natch). Those are just a few of his best undercover personae—only the most diligent KGB desk jockey could keep count of the countless wigs, mustaches, and turtlenecks Philip has sported to fool his marks.

But that’s not why he’s the best character on the show. READ FULL STORY

Matthew Rhys talks taking on Darcy, fearing 'White Shirt Syndrome' in 'Death Comes to Pemberley'

Brace yourselves, Austenites: PBS’s Pride & Prejudice-inspired miniseries Death Comes to Pemberley will not feature any soaked shirts. But it will showcase The Americans‘ always swoonworthy Matthew Rhys, second from left, as the esteemed Fitzwilliam Darcy.

The action in Pemberley—adapted from British author P.D. James’ best-seller—picks up six years after the events of Jane Austen’s classic novel
and finds Lizzy Bennet’s better half reluctantly helping defend his troublemaking in-law George Wickham (Matthew Goode, restrained at right) after Wickham crashes an important event and confesses to committing the ultimate party foul: murder. Talking to EW, Rhys insists Pemberley (airing Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 on
Masterpiece) will show unexpected facets of the iconic character.

Below, view an exclusive First Look at the miniseries, then learn more about Rhys’s take on Darcy and the Colin Firth-specific affliction Rhys calls “White Shirt Syndrome.” READ FULL STORY

'The Americans': Hair department spills 8 tidbits about the show's outrageous '80s wig

One of the best parts of watching FX’s rollicking spy drama The Americans is getting to see just what Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell wear next — on their heads, that is.

Peg Schierholz, who leads the show’s hair department, has plenty to say about the fun that goes into creating the gorgeous 1980s styles that adorn Phillip, Elizabeth, and the rest of their Russian-American spy friends. And in fact, that’s why their hair is so big: it’s full of secrets.

Read on for eight little factoids we learned from Schierholz in anticipation of Wednesday night’s episode, which might answer a few questions fans have about one character’s locks in particular. READ FULL STORY
