Melissa McCarthy to make 'Saturday Night Live' return Feb. 1

Though the news leaked over the weekend, NBC has now officially confirmed it: Actress, comedian, and fan favorite host Melissa McCarthy will return to host SNL for a third time on Feb. 1. This will mark McCarthy’s third visit to SNL in four years; the Mike and Molly star hosted previously in 2011 and 2013. Her hosting stint comes months before McCarthy returns to the big screen in a pair of high-profile projects: St. Vincent de Van Nuys, which costars Bill Murray (opening April 11), and Tammy (opening July 2), which McCarthy co-wrote with her husband Ben Falcone. (Falcone directed the film as well.)

McCarthy will appear on SNL with musical guest Imagine Dragons. The alt-rock band, which will be making its SNL debut, is up for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, which take place Jan. 26. Imagine Dragons will perform at the ceremony as well.

Report: Melissa McCarthy to host 'SNL' for the third time

Guess who’s back?

Melissa McCarthy — a fan favorite who won second place in our “Best SNL Host” poll last year — will return to helm NBC’s sketch show for the third time on Feb. 1, according to Variety. That’s the day before Super Bowl XLVIII, which this year will take place in New Jersey — less than 10 miles away from SNL‘s midtown Manhattan studio.

McCarthy previously hosted Saturday Night Live in 2011 and 2013. She currently stars on the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly and can next be seen on the big screen in a pair of comedies: opposite Bill Murray in St. Vincent de Van Nuys (opening April 11) and with Susan Sarandon in Tammy (opening July 2), which McCarthy also co-wrote with her husband Ben Falcone. (Falcone directed the film as well.)

No musical guest for McCarthy’s return has yet been announced.

Melissa McCarthy to host 'Saturday Night Live' on April 6

Lost in the excitement about Justin Timberlake’s fifth SNL outing was this nugget of news: sitcom and big screen star Melissa McCarthy will host the sketch show on April 6. Though reports speculating about McCarthy’s return to Saturday Night Live circulated last week — and EW first caught wind of it in late February — her stint wasn’t officially confirmed until Saturday’s show. SNL also confirmed that French rock band Phoenix will serve as its next musical guest.

McCarthy earned rave reviews and impressive ratings when she hosted SNL for the first time in October 2011, just a few weeks after nabbing a Best Actress Emmy for her work on Mike & Molly. Her latest film, Identity Thief, is the biggest box-office hit of the young year, with more than $116 million in grosses; the star’s next movie, a buddy-cop comedy called The Heat costarring Sandra Bullock, is expected June 28. Phoenix, too, has something major to promote: its upcoming fifth studio album, Bankrupt!, which drops April 22.

Here’s a taste of what we can expect from McCarthy’s return:
