'Masters of Sex' trailer: 'I'm assuming it's not an accident, meeting in a hotel'

The first look at Masters of Sex season 2 is here!

Showtime’s drama left off with Dr. Masters (Michael Sheen) showing up at Virginia’s (Lizzy Caplan) door and declaring, “There is something I can’t live without: It’s you.” That statement’s consequences are sure to be felt by nearly every character this year. Viewers get a quick look at all the regulars in this 70-second teaser, which first debuted on The Hollywood Reporter.

Besides Masters and Virginia, we see Masters’ wife, Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald), Lillian DePaul (Julianne Nicholson), Barton and Margaret Scully (Beau Bridges and Allison Janney), and even the apparent return of Betty DiMello (Anneleigh Ashford), the prostitute who helped out Masters’ study in the early episodes of the first season. Not yet present: Sarah Silverman, who joins the cast this season.

Michael Sheen AND Lizzy Caplan? You're going to want to watch NSFW 'Masters of Sex' trailer

Call Salt-N-Pepa: Showtime has decided it’s time to talk about sex.

Masters of Sex, starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, tells the story of real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson, whose controversial — to say the least — research helped kick off the sexual revolution. For those interested, Masters and Johnson’s work picked up after Alfred Kinsey’s research (which was the subject of its own 2004 movie, starring Liam Neeson).

“He is a brilliant scientist out of touch with his own feelings, and she is a single working mother ahead of her time. The series chronicles their unusual lives, romance, and unlikely pop culture trajectory,” per Showtime. And, in case the title didn’t give it away, their “unusual lives” are obviously full of NSFW moments. You’ve been warned. Watch below:

Kristen Wiig, Michael Sheen and more join Will Ferrell in 'Spoils of Babylon'

Did the madness on last night’s Game of Thrones make you long for another epic in your life?

IFC to the rescue! The network has announced the rest of the cast for The Spoils of Babylon, an epic parody of television mini-series produced by Funny Or Die and starring Will Ferrell. Rounding out the cast will be Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, Tobey Maguire, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, Tim Robbins, and Kristen Wiig. The show, a television adaptation of a best-selling epic novel by fictional famous author Eric Jonrosh (Ferrell), will have six half-hour episodes that will premiere in early 2014.

The Spoils of Babylon, a century-spanning saga, chronicles the sexy and dramatic lives of the Morehouse family, led by Jonas Morehouse (Robbins), his daughter Cynthia (Wiig) and her adopted brother Devon (Maguire) who made their fortune in the oil business,” according to a press release. “The series takes viewers from the oil fields of Texas to boardrooms in New York City, through war torn battlefields and velvet-sheeted bedrooms. Cynthia and Devon’s unbridled and taboo passion for one another cannot be prevented. Add in Cynthia’s evil son Winston (Osment), her put upon husband Chet Halner (Sheen), and Devon’s new love interest Dixie Mellonworth (Alba), and the booze, the pills, more passion, more pills and the heartache, and you have a mercurial potboiler. Then add in illegal arms deals, international espionage, the Shah of Iran (Ferrell), and two U.S. Army generals (Kilmer, Steve Tom) and it begins to overflow with boiling liquid in a pot on a hot stove that is operational.”

“This amazingly talented cast will give this decadent genre its due respect,” said Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC in a press release. “Never before has a parody of a mini-series been more poised for showers of accolades.”

'Masters of Sex' and 'Ray Donovan': Showtime teases two new shows -- VIDEO

Homeland wraps up its second season on Dec. 16, but Showtime is hoping viewers of its Emmy-winning thriller will keep tuning in on Sunday nights when they launch two new series in 2013. The cable network recently released a two-for-one trailer for Masters of Sex, which stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan (Party Down) as the real-life pioneering 1950’s sexologists, William Masters and Virginia Johnson; and Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber as a Hollywood fixer who seems like a gritty combination of Pulp Fiction‘s Mr. Wolf and real-life investigator-to-the-stars, Anthony Pellicano.
