Minnie Driver recalls 'Good Will Hunting,' 'The Riches,' and more notable roles

From NBC’s charming rom-com About a Boy to Lifetime’s biblical miniseries The Red Tent (debuting Dec. 7), Minnie Driver is having one very busy fall—and that’s not even including her surprising role in the sleeper hit Beyond the Lights or her appearance in Peter Pan Live! on NBC.

EW asked Driver to share memories of the projects that paved her path through Hollywood:

Circle of Friends (1995)
“I had been working pretty consistently in television in England, but that was my first big film role. I was so broke. I was trying to be a musician. I had been living in Uruguay with my sister, and I came back for Christmas and I met with Pat O’Connor, the director. I don’t think I looked the part, but he clearly saw Benny in me. I remember the casting director saying, ‘The girl that they cast as the beautiful girl is going to get all the attention, and you need to just know that you’re going to do a wonderful job.’ It gave me my whole career, that movie.”

Lifetime adapting 'The Red Tent' into miniseries starring Minnie Driver, Morena Baccarin, Rebecca Ferguson

Lifetime is the latest network to order Bible-themed programming, announcing a miniseries adaptation of Anita Diamant’s bestselling novel, The Red Tent.

The two-night event stars Minnie Driver (About a Boy), Morena Baccarin (Homeland), Rebecca Ferguson (The White Queen), Debra Winger (Terms of Endearment), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), and Will Tudor (Game of Thrones) in the expanded saga of Dinah, the daughter of Leah and Jacob, who was only briefly mentioned in the Old Testament. Production begins this month in Morocco.

Ferguson plays Dinah, who spends her formative years in her tribe’s red tent, a women-only sanctuary where she learns about her family’s traditions and turmoil. The story recounts her father Jacob’s (Glen) courtship of her mothers Leah (Driver), Rachel (Baccarin), Zilpah, and Bilhah. The tale continues with Dinah’s own experiences with love and a devastating loss that changes the fate of her family.

Winger portrays Rebecca, Jacob’s mother; Tudor stars as Joseph, Dinah’s brother. READ FULL STORY

'About a Boy': Jason Katims, David Walton, and Minnie Driver talk new episodes, upcoming guest stars

When you’re really good at something, it’s easy to have an ego. Jason Katims is really good at taking films, like Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, and turning them into successful shows for NBC.

Luckily, Katims’ ego is in check and he’s moved over to the lighter side with the new comedy About a Boy, based on the 2002 film (which in turn was based on the Nick Hornby novel) about a man-child and the actual child he befriends next door. EW was at a special screening of two upcoming episodes of the series with Katims and stars David Walton and Minnie Driver. The trio talked about exciting guest stars for both FNL and Arrested Development fans, what else to expect for the remainder of the first season, and the creative benefits of working on television versus film.
