Exclusive first look: Minka Kelly lights up NBC's 'Parenthood'

minka-kellyImage Credit: Justin Lubin/NBCWhen the time came for Parenthood to introduce the character of Gaby Moss, an Asperger’s aid that Kristina (Monica Potter) and Adam (Peter Krause) hire to help out with their son, Max, the NBC drama’s boss, Jason Katims, immediately thought of his onetime Friday Night Lights ingénue Minka Kelly.

“On the one hand, she’s charming and easy-going,” says Katims, “but she’s also quietly forceful, which is something this role requires. It’s a tough position to come in and tell anybody, ‘Hey, you’re not doing a good job with your kid.’”

Katims sent Kelly the script and within 24 hours she wanted in. READ FULL STORY »

Question: In honor of Neil Patrick Harris being cast in the Smurfs movie, you should give us some big scoop. It’s what the Smurfs would want. —Riina
Ausiello:
Actually, I just conducted a straw poll in Smurf Village and turns out what the Smurfs really wanted was me, not NPH. All kidding aside, I really did conduct a poll. And I won. By a landslide. Seriously. Moving on… here’s your big scoop: My magazine column is movin’ on up to the News & Notes section beginning with this week’s issue (on sale Friday). Someone please start a congratulatory thread in the comments section so I don’t have to.

Question: I heard Desperate Housewives is casting a new vixen to replace Nicolette Sheridan. Any idea whom they’re looking at to play her? —Scotty

Press Tour Scoop: Peter Krause recalls 'Dirty Sexy Money' nightmare

“Here, we have an agreement about what this show should be on the part of the network and the producers. And on that show, there wasn’t an agreement on what the show should be, so there was a lot of battling behind the scenes.” — Peter Krause comparing his new family drama (NBC’s Parenthood) to his last one (ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money) at the Television Critics Association press tour today.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Glee,' 'Grey's,' 'NCIS,' 'Lost,' and more!

Ask-Ausiello-Glee_lGot a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com

Question: G’day! How about you share some Glee scoop? —Vivian
Ausiello:
Okay, mate. There’s a crazy-ass rumor going around that Will will discover Terri’s faux baby plot, dump her, and then, in a moment of passion, get her pregnant for real! The really crazy-ass part? Sources confirm that two of those three things are true! And the other one? Not so much.

Question: I loved the Rachel-Puck hook-up in last week’s Glee! Is this something that the show may continue in the future? —Tiana
Ausiello:
Not in the immediate future. In the immediate future, Puck is mostly into Quinn. Which is sweet considering he knocked her up and all.

Question: I have a really fun assignment for you, Aus. Create a chart listing every Lost alum there ever was, and then next to their names, tell us where things stand in terms of them returning for the final season. I just know how much you love to make lists. —Steven
Ausiello:
I have a better idea: Let’s scrap the chart and forget we ever had this conversation. In return, I’ll share this Lost nugget with you: I hear Team Darlton will give us the answer to one of Lost‘s oldest and most confounding mysteries. And I’m pretty sure it’s an answer none of us expected to get. READ FULL STORY »

Exclusive: 'Gilmore' girl Lauren Graham on her big TV comeback

Lauren-Graham-interview_lSometimes the way the TV biz works leaves me scratching my head, going, “Huh?” Other times, I get it… it’s fate. This is definitely one of those. Because although ABC passed on Lauren Graham’s comedy pilot, she’s still returning to the tube this season, on NBC’s buzzy Parenthood series. And here, in her first interview since agreeing to step in for Maura Tierney as single mom Sarah, the Gilmore Girls gabber explains why she decided to join the all-star ensemble, why her new character is nothing like Lorelai, and what her new gig means for that much-discussed-by-me Gilmore movie.

Why did you decide to take the part?
LAUREN GRAHAM: It’s the best thing I’ve read. It’s was really that simple.

Any trepidation about signing another long-term TV commitment?
GRAHAM: Yeah. I’ve been out of that work for, I guess it’s been two-and-half years now. I did a Broadway show, I did three movies… I [enjoyed] working freelance like that. So, strangely, as much as I’ve been looking for a series almost since I ended that last one, it was almost like, “But wait… ” I’ve enjoyed [the variety] of projects I’ve done. That’s hard to think about giving up. READ FULL STORY »

'Parenthood' exclusive: Helen Hunt out! Lauren Graham in!

graham-hunt_lUPDATE Friday, Oct. 9: It’s official! A source inside Graham’s camp confirms that her deal to join Parenthood has just closed! Woo-hoo!

This just in: Helen Hunt is apparently no longer in the running to replace Maura Tierney in Parenthood. According to an insider, talks between the actress and NBC fell apart and the role of single mom Sarah has now been offered to (wait for it) Lauren Graham! I’m told the Gilmore Girls MVP recently met with Parenthood boss Jason Katims (dream team alert!) to discuss the plum part.

Can you imagine?! I can and it’s awesome!
