Paul McCartney to perform on special one-hour 'Colbert Report'

The Colbert Report will air a one-hour music special with Paul McCartney next Wednesday, June 12. In addition to his interview with Colbert, McCartney is set to perform songs from his Out There tour, Wings Over America, which has a 2013 reissue, and more. ‘I think this McCartney kid’s got something special and I’m gonna put him on the map!” said Colbert, in a press release.

This will be the first time McCartney has performed on the show but he first appeared on Colbert in early 2009. Click here to watch that appearance. (It does not disappoint).

McCartney will have to rest up after this performance, because he’s set to perform at Bonnaroo on June 14.

Martin Short and Paul McCartney tapped for 'Saturday Night Live' Christmas show

Get ready for A Very Ed Grimley Christmas.

EW has confirmed that SNL alum Martin Short will return to Studio 8H on Dec. 15 to host the sketch show’s last episode of 2012. He’ll be joined by Paul McCartney, who will be making his fifth Saturday Night Live appearance. McCartney last stopped by SNL in 2010.

Short has hosted SNL twice previously, though not since 1996. He’s made several cameo appearances between then and now, though, most recently in a 2006 episode. Short was a member of Saturday Night Live‘s cast during its 1984-1985 season.

Jamie Foxx will host SNL‘s next episode, which airs Dec. 8. NBC will also air SNL Christmas, a compilation of favorite holiday sketches, this Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 9 p.m.

Paul McCartney not joining 'Mad Men' (duh)

Wild rumor of the day: Paul McCartney will appear on AMC’s Mad Men in a cameo.

The UK paper The Sun reported the music legend is in talks to appear on the show’s fifth season. “It’s perfect timing because his new music suits the program perfectly,” an anonymous source told the publication, which ran a story headlined “Sir Paul McCartney will have a cameo role on hit TV show Mad Men.” “Action in the show has now reached the Swinging Sixties. So it’s only right that the man who was pivotal to the era is involved in the show.”

Sources close to the show insist there’s no truth to it. Though McCartney is a huge name, the stunt casting would be rather distracting and off-brand for a drama that prides itself on avoiding gimmicks. (Plus it would just be weird: McCartney playing another character on a period drama when Young Paul and The Beatles were at their peak).

A Mad Men source added, however, “Sir Paul is welcome to stop by any time as he’s beloved by the show as he is everywhere around the world.”
